Nevertheless an excellent and appropriate post.
I would just add that it may not be the reporters entirely to blame, there is a responsibility with the editorial staff to ensure that reports are accurate and honest but it seems that they often have their own agenda and can even rewrite or omit valid parts of submitted reports. Then there is the owners of the paper who also have an agenda which doesn't necessarily run parallel to fair and honest reporting.

Many years ago I was a small part of a group who were featured in the centre spread of a Sunday paper (might have been The Mail on Sunday, but memory is hazy) - it was nothing sinister, we were almost bystanders, but it's when something like that happens you realise just how little part truth and accuracy play when it comes to writing articles. The editor's response to the complaint about the inaccurate article was along the lines of: 'Well, that's how our reporter saw it....'. Funny how the reporter had a wholly different interpretation of events to everyone else in the group

After years and years of reading the Mail and Express, my brother-in-law got lumbered with us staying with him for a couple of weeks. So, in addition to those two papers plopping through the letterbox each day, the Guardian made a daily appearance.

Where the two tabloids managed to occupy Mike for maybe 45 minutes after breakfast, we usually found him still absorbed by the Guardian well towards lunchtime. He even picked it up again in the afternoon.
"Never knew there was such good stuff here" was his comment, "and well written". And that from someone who had voted blue for decades...

All press, like all broadcast media, are not the same, and thank goodness. Some of the dismal tabloids pumped out in the UK have depressed public understanding of important issues something dreadful. A daily diet of dumbing down and slogan headlines has a lot to answer for, as we are now finding out.

Couldn't agree more Chris. I don't have a regular paper delivered so I buy a paper 3 or 4 times a week. I tend to buy The Independant, The Guardian or the local Mercury and I find a distinctly different approach to the truth in each of them. As an engineer I tend to ignore the aesthetic comment and just take in the nitty gritty if possible . Editorials I don't bother with at all invariably turning to the sports section after reading the Actual News for the day. So most of my news info comes from the radio news and the web so I won't miss the papers if they do collapse. :)

Looks like the Netherlands has decided to follow the example of the United Kingdom. As of today they have put N/A in the 'Total Recovered' column. However, I have popped a formula in that calculates the value. It has been static at 250 since 29th March.

<For the avoidance of more confusion than normal - my post below was in reference to other - since deleted - posts..... hence it seems a little marooned :? >

There's no point shredding any newspaper, just as there's no point shredding political views. No one newspaper has all the answers just as no one political view holds all the answers. Never have, never will. That's life.

....and that's intended as an un-political comment :)

Well, it definitely appears that some idiots have no respect/concern for other road users. The numbers of extreme speeders has gone up dramatically. In one instance some git was clocked doing over 70MPH in a 20MPH zone. Please be careful out there, everybody. I would hate to read that somebody I 'know' from the Forum has been injured/killed by an reckless idiot.

One of the things the pessimistic Press are banging on about as that there are COVID 19 test centres lying idle. So? The reason is very simple; as yet there are not enough testing kits available to fully utilise the testing centres. It makes good sense (to me, at least) to have testing centres assembled and ready to use (and then let the people who assembled them move onto other tasks) and then wait for the testing kits than vice versa. Any intelligent organiser, on being told it will take time for an important resource to become available, would use that time to get everything else needed to use that resource in place so that, once everything is in place, procedures can then start up.

《Much snippage》

Yep, that and the fact the Govt. would be crucified if they turned 'round and said "Nah, we didn't think we'd need any so we haven't built any".
Even though they have built them with good reason, they couldn't not build them.

There was a piece on the radio this morning about the PPE procurement. Whilst there've been cock-ups, they're also having to cope with goods that have been ordered just not arriving, goods being delivered that just aren't up to standard, and con merchants trying to straightforward defraud them.
