Mirrors not folding

Post by Goatz »

Hi all,

for some reason my mirrors are not folding, either by locking from the key of the button on the driver door.
i have tried the following:
checked the fuse
bsi reset
reset both windows ( hold down for 5 secs, hold up for 5 secs
folding mirror reset ( ignition on, hold mirror button down, ignition off, release button, hold button down again, ignition on, release button)
- ensured the mirrors are sat correctly

no luck so far.

When I pull the button or lock the car, listening close up to the mirror I hear no motor struggling, it is silent.

Car is a 2010 RCZ

thanks

There's no mention of that routine anywhere in the manual or other info on this -

You just need to ensure the ignition is on, then pull back on the mirror switch to fold and again to unfold. No need to switch ignition on and off whilst holding.

Do the mirrors work following the above and do they work when locking with the remote? If the mirrors have manually been folded using the panel on the door, they won't then deploy using the remote on locking.... To get that function back, you first need to undeploy the mirrors by switching the ignition on, then pulling back on the cojntrol using the driver's keypad. Once they have deployed the remote fob can again be used to deploy and fold the mirrors.

If the mirrors are not deploying with the ignition on or the car idling (in case economy mode has kicked in) then you need to do some more troubleshooting.

First I would check the wiring loom where it passes through the engine bay to the door area where the hinges are. There should be a rubber grommet that protects the wires. If you open that see if any of the wires have become weak, broken or exposed.

Then check Fuses F5 and F17 in the BSI (passenger glovebox), F5 is for the driver's door control pad, F17 is for both exterior mirrors.

Next I would check the driver's control panel itself. These can become faulty due to water ingress over time (rain from open windows), but also in your case with a cabriolet. They can be lifted up with a blunt flat plastic trim tool. Be careful of the connectors. When you have this removed, the unit can be disassembled for a clean up with some electrical contact cleaner - that may do it. If not then it may need replacing.

A few pointers anyway.

Hi,

Many thanks for the response.
The button on the drivers panel does nothing and I can confirm the car has not been in economy mode when I have been trying it.
The mirror reset protocol I mentioned before was something I found mentioned on another forum and just thought I would Give it a try.

I will take a look at the wiring loom and the fuses tomorrow.
Thanks!

Have they ever folded whilst you've owned the car?

Hi,

No i havent :)
The other possibility is that this function has been disabled in the BSI. I would need a tool to check which would cost a bit, so I want to explore all other anvenues first.

I'm guessing they've been told they don't exist. Yep you'll need Diagbox to check, maybe they were turned off because one didn't work?
