Brake disc screws

Hi, going to be replacing my front brake discs and would preferably like to if not need to replace the front brake disc holding screws as well. Can't seem to find any on ebay or elsewhere I know will be a guaranteed fit. Anybody able to provide a link to new ones.

Any guidance much appreciated!

Assuming you can get the screws out without damaging them you can re-use them (and you only need to do them up tight; they don't have a torque requirement). All they really do is hold the brake disc in place when you change a wheel. The wheel bolts, while holding the wheel securely in place, also hold the brake discs in place.

What might be a good idea (once you have cleaned up the contact surfaces) is to smear a little copper slip grease on the wheel hub where the disc will contact it. This should make it easier to remove the discs in the future. I also smear some copper slip grease on the threads of the securing screws and the wheel bolts, but make certain that no grease touches the disks or pads.

Thanks for the tips. Good to know there not massively important. Think I will spray some rust penetrant on them a few days in a row until ECP make the delivery. Seen a tip to hold disc in place by using a screwdriver wedged between carrier to stop it turning clockwise, will defs use that. Copper grease is a good idea for future removal! Will make sure I can get them out before I go ahead with full on. Seen some types on ebay but nothing but Citroen as far a specifics. Cheers for the advice mate.

Probably the best penetrant fluid is 'Plus Gas' (which has the tag 'dismantling fluid'). I have known it be successfully used to release bleed nipples (a daily application over the course of a week will break the hold the rust has got), which (should they shear off) can cause a world of pain. I always have a can available in the car for awkward seized things.

Should you struggle to get the disks free (even when all of the bolts and screws have been removed) a trick that can work is to get the engine to help (I have not had to use this trick myself). Make sure the car is safely supported, there are no screws or bolts holding the disks in place, BOTH driving wheels (without the actual wheels, obviously) are clear of the ground, and the rear wheels are chocked, to make sure the car cannot move. Start the engine, put the car into second gear, wait a few moments, and then tread on the foot brake. The twisting action should break one disk free (it can make a bit of a bang when it does this). Put the car into neutral and turn off the engine. One of the disks should now be free (if you are very lucky both may be free). If one disk is free secure it back to the hub (using wheel bolts), start the engine up and repeat (you may need to put the car into reverse for it to work on the other disk). If this works it has saved you a lot of effort using heavy tools (angle grinder, hammer and chisel, and so on) to get the disks off.

Unbelievable how bloody rust (no thanks to good old British weather) can make a relatively straightforward job an utter nightmare lol. Not heard of 'Plus Gas' must pick up a can. Even that wont be that straightforward atm with the Covid-19 situation, thank God for eBay!!

Plus Gas needs a few days usage for it to penetrate into the rust and free it off (so one good application per item a day for a week). I have used it on bleed nipples and they have (for me, at least) spun out easily, despite there being a decent crusty coating.

Treat yourself to a hole punch and a cheap impact driver. That’ll shift the stupid little screws

Can't remember if it was Doctile or Bobins, but the best release agent is 50/50 ATF and acetone, it took all the bolts out of my 40 year old z1000, not one had to be drilled after shearing.

Screwfix stock stainless M6 (I think that`s the size) allen socket C/S screws, about £3 for 50. Also have hex head stainless, and it is a good plan to substitute these in places like the rear brake cover plate.
