Mask construction.

ED: system said it wouldn't accept the above as too few characters then posted it separately.

A kid in our area 3D printed a load of face shields after reverse-designing them from a pic from the internet. 100 or so have been given to the local surgery who say they are “ace” .Local people have donated loads of elastic, and our surgery put up an Amazon wish list of what kit they were desperate for on their FB page - all now has been purchased by locals. Amazing effort, but shambolic by the government.

The NHS staff are doing their job in the same way the Armed Forces have over the years at a far far higher cost.
Do not get me wrong, I make no complaints of the NHS staff and all gratitude to them, but let us get some perspective on this.
Yes, well said Sticky. The 4 NHS staff I know really find the applause thing embarrassing. “It’s nice, but we’re just doing our job”

It is brilliant that people with the right equipment can produce PPE of such a quality that the professionals want them. My design is just a 'bodge' job, but will help to protect us. I am of the attitude that, if there was one professional visor available, a professional carer should receive it (as they are really in the front line, and are far more likely to be exposed to the virus) while I use the 'bodge' visor.

Which 'essential' staff
There are thousands (Lab Techs to Managers etc) who are far from "Low waged" working in the essential services.

A new Private gets about £20k pa, a new Nurse about £22kpa, a Hospital Porter about £18k, cleaners are on about 8-50/10 per hour.

My old friend did the doorstep clapping thing with all her neighbours last week but said afterwards it was stupid and it would be much better if instead they'd all put a quid in the pot for the staff.

Rather than go into the "Oh yes he did, Oh no he didn't" scenario, have a look at the ONS statistics for average pay. The average earnings in the UK across the board sit somewhere around £30k.

Scroll down to Figure 11 and see where the various occupation's pay distributions lie.

This I don't understand from your charts.

7.
Glossary
Full-time and part-time
Full-time is defined as employees working more than 30 paid hours per week (or 25 or more for the teaching professions). Part-time is defined as employees working less than or equal to 30 paid hours per week (or less than 25 hours for the teaching professions).

What's so special about the teaching profession?

Modifying your idea James I have come up with these:
Own work
Own work
Which definitely improve my looks:
Own work

It has been suggested that a fully opaque version would be even better from that point of view!!

As are other people's cars but we still had to work 42 hours to be 'full time'. :-D

Remember at the time of the infamous Kenneth Baker, and concern about the totally unspecified number of hours that teaching staff should work, the man came up with the requirement that all teachers in state schools should work for 2000 hours a year.

Our Head wrote a letter to Baker (cc W.Sussex's director of education) pointing out that most of his own staff would reach that 2000 hours by about the first week of May. What, he enquired, should staff do after that figure had been reached? Should they stay at home? Or come in to work, sign in, and then go home? Or would overtime be paid?

No reply was ever received.
