Forum maintenance 29/3/2020

Post by xantia_v6 »

I have updated the forum style sheets to the latest version.

There should be no changes to the way the forum operates, but there are some minor layout changes:
  • The layout of the forum header is changed, the grey bars at the side are gone
  • The header buttons have moved back onto the header image (where they were until a couple of years ago)
  • The forum, topic and PM icons have been slightly reworked (mainly the blue circles have changed to grey)
  • I have put a maximum width of 1500 pixels on the forum page (this is experimental)
  • A few other tweaks which are more or less invisible
Let me know if you see anything strange, or if you don't like the changes.

[Edit] I have undone a couple of the changes because they do not look right with our banner image.

Are you talking about the white areas to the sides that I have arrowed in Green from your screenshot Robin?

These do look a bit too wide and use a lot of screen real estate - I'm sure Mike will look into it.

At 100% magnification it is the same on Opera, Chrome and Edge viewed on PC - large white site borders.

Yep. It's not a deal breaker for me :) but it does look a bit odd and to my eyes makes the screen look a bit overpoweringly bright.... but I can always put my sunglasses on 8-) :rofl2:

Mine is like this (125% zoom)
I always need to zoom in, often 200%.
At that it looks OK but to be honest I rarely even notice unless something is horribly wrong

May not work for you but I discovered by accident that hovering the cursor over the battery charge icon and scrolling it adjust the screen brightness on the fly.

I have increased the forum maximum width to 1800 pixels, see if that works better for everyone.

Looks a lot better from where I'm sitting, but it'd be good to hear what other people think 8-[

I honestly haven't noticed any difference. Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Inside every old person is a young person wondering what the hell happened.

That is a good thing.

I have tweaked a few more things, and I think that I will leave it alone for a while.
