206 COMMS 2000 unit

Post by ken newbold »

Hi there, a quick question if anyone is in the know?

a friend of mine took the comms 2000 unit off his 54plate 206 1.4 car to try and determine where the airbag fault was on another car, same year. The airbag light went out but nothing else worked and the car wouldn't start. so he put it's original one back on, everything ok other than the airbag fault which we have now cured.
He put his comms 2000 back on his own car but now now nothing works at all! just an immobilizer fault on the dash screen, no wipers, indicators or nothing. He's been told the unit is knacked and been trying to find another. So my question is, does the numbers on the unit have to be an EXACT match, we've found one that is ony the last two numbers different, would this do?

His number is 96595 076 XT
The one found is 96595 074 XT

Any help or advise would be most appreciated. :-)

The units may look the same but they are entirely different. They are designed for different vehicles with different electrical architectures and different factory options.

The Comms units also handle the handshaking from the transponder chips in the fobs via the transponder coil to the BSI. It is important that you get a Comms unit of the correct part number for the intended vehicle.

Idealy they should but not necessarily. There a loads of different versions of com2000 units but sometimes the only difference is the markings on the unit. For example if you have 2 identical models apart from one has front fog lamps & the other doesent the only actual difference is the little front fog lamp symbol painted on the unit, they are electrically identical. Can you match up the equipment to the new one? auto lights, wipers etc. whether it has ESP or not?
