M.O.T changes due to coronavirus
I would rather not drive without an M.O.T
But due to coronavirus its changed yet another part of everyday living . I'm pretty well up on many aspects of keeping my cars road worthy to mot pass standards ive qualified the new government rules that I'm OK to drive both my cars as they run out 19 April and June this year so there exempt for 12 months .
But not everyone has knowledge of cars and do leave even changing a bulbs to garages , will this mean people will leave the car alone for a year ?
On the plus side pollution levels dropping
Air feels fresher ... Maybe nature has hit back and to be honest can you blame mother nature ? I don't .
Even the electric cars are to little too late.
Its a strange time let's hope lessons can be learnt from it.

The stuff i have read on it says its a 6 month extension on MOT’s?
Lets face it a car could still be easily unroadworthy a couple of months after an MOT & its not a years guaranteed roadworthiness anyway so don’t really see it making a big difference. There was talk of making MOT’s every 2 years anyway like I believe some European countries are.

Re: M.O.T changes due to coronavirus
Any car that needs an MOT test before this coming Monday still has to get an MOT test. All other current valid MOT certificates will now be vaild for 18 months, not 12 months. If you can find a garage still doing MOT tests, or find a garage that will examine your car without MOT testing it, then you could still do that.

Looks like a 6 month extension to me, depending on when it expires.

Re: M.O.T changes due to coronavirus
It's a 6 month extension for cars with an expiry date after March 30th. The Check Mot web site will, apparently, be updated to show this extra 6 months so that you can tax your car during this period. It's almost as if the car had an 18 month certificate.
Our 308 is up on the 31st March and so falls in to this category but I checked about 5 minutes ago (again) and it's not yet showing the new date.

Re: M.O.T changes due to coronavirus
Oh bottom, my MOT expired on the 22nd of March and has an appointment to be tested on the 3rd April. Even though its low milage and a safe car to drive its currently off the road waiting for new engine cooling fan parts. Plus the insurance will not be valid until its MOT'd.

In Spain the I.T.V. has been postponed too. Can still pay car tax though, they simply add 5 or 10% to the bill if you don’t pay on time. Here the inspection is done only in a government facility. Although some garages are open they can’t open their doors unless you phone first. Car spares shops are closed to the public but professionals can use them.

Re: M.O.T changes due to coronavirus
My c1 is due on the 12th may. What I read into the changes is that I will have an extension until 12th november. It's a 6 month extension to your existing due date.

That's exactly it, Davie. If anyone wakes up on the morning of Tuesday 31st March and their car has a valid MOT test certificate, then that certificate has its validity extended by another 6 months.

Re: M.O.T changes due to coronavirus
It is good news for me as I would need a replacement before August. A bit more breathing space. Buying a replacement just now has it's own problems of course.

Just been to the Check MOT Status site again and it's still saying that the MOT is valid until 31st March.

On a pedantic level, you might find the rule changes haven't been enacted yet.
