berlingo van in eco mode
I have a 2007 berlingo 1.9d van which has the battery charge warning light illuminated , suggesting that the alternator isnt charging the battery but a multimeter check across the battery terminals gives a reading of 14.4 volts. i have a limited knowledge of vehicle electrics but it would appear that the ecu doesnt recognise the fact that the battery is charging and has put the van into eco mode and shut down several of the vans electrical circuits. any help would be appreciated

Then you need to start checking the wiring circuits from the battery to the engine fuse box, as this then supplies the other systems.
If you post up your VIN I might be able to get a circuit diagram up for you.

It is worth checking all the fuses (inside the car and under the bonnet), as this vehicle may have a charge control module that shares a fuse with something else.

Re: berlingo van in eco mode
I think i would be trying a BSI reset here before going any further.

Re: berlingo van in eco mode
So this is an early BERLINGO VU (M59) SHORT VAN '600' 1.9 D 71 (DW8B) Manual gearbox 5 with Lucas
This is an early model and I'm having some issues with identifying exact options for the circuits at present, but you can try the reset procedure first here:
BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure

Re: berlingo van in eco mode
this is not an early model and is in fact one of the last with the 1.9 dw8 engine before the change to 1.6 hdi. bsi unit and ecu have already been changed.
Re: berlingo van in eco mode
Why was the BSI & ECU changed? Was it to try curing this fault or has the fault appeared after they were replaced?

Re: berlingo van in eco mode
sorry for the delay in response but i thought id wait until i had the time to experiment further in the hope that i had more information to give you. i changed the bsi and ecu to eliminate the bsi as the cause of the problem. today i changed the engine fuse box and the engine wiring loom along with the alternator to eliminate these also. whilst hooking the loom back up with the ignition on and the wipers switched on i discovered that if i disconnected the positive lead on the battery and touched it on and off the battery terminal quickly , the wipers stuttered every time power was supplied and if the lead was left connected the wipers would complete one sweep ie up from park then back to park but then stopped until i repeated this process. i decided to repeat this process with the engine running and found that there was no response from the wipers at all. all very confusing for someone with limited electrical knowledge. if the battery lead is connected just the once with the engine off and ignition on there is also no response. i have to touch the lead on and off quickly to get a response the after its held in contact with the terminal i get one cycle of the wipers then nothing until i repeat the process. the van is now back on its original bsi and ecu. any help would be very much appreciated.
Re: berlingo van in eco mode
Firstly it’s really not a good idea to disconnect the battery with the engine running or the ignition on. It can spike sensitive electronics.
Next check i would do is a continuity check between the alternator exciter wire & the BSI. It goes from the alternator to the BSI via the under bonnet fusebox, by changing the engine harness this should have ruled out the alternator to fusebox so just want to check now from fusebox to BSI.
If you give me your RP number (its at the bottom of the tyre pressure sticke) i can look up the wiring diagram & get the pin numbers.

Re: berlingo van in eco mode
You want to check the continuity between pin 2 of the 16 way grey connector on the under bonnet fusebox to pin 11 of the 40 way black connector of the BSI.
Also check it for shorts to earth & positive.
