Does it have some special purpose (as you call it a membrane) or it is just to cover what is below? Mine is no more at its place.
Stickyfinger wrote: 06 Mar 2020, 13:21 Yep.....that was the cause....you can see the dirty stains and some fine soil debris on the bottom of the insulation and door card.
I think the leakage comes from the rear wiper motor assembly, and more precisely from its seal to the door body. Originally I had a non working motor full of dirt, so the shaft, turning the wiper, is also an option. Third could be the rear window seal, as mine looks really burned out.

A hint would be the same seal located over the L.H. rear window, where you have some rust bubbling ;)

If it's not there the water just runs straight in the car, as it does when it's not stuck down properly!!

If that plastic sheet is just the visible liner on the tailgate (I couldn't easily tell from the photo) it will not be/need to be in any way waterproof, and is just a cosmetic cover for the tailgate innards. In which case, remove it temporarily, and investigate the water leak.
Similiar in function to door liner trim. Tailgate likely to have drain holes at the bottom edge, like the doors. Check those aren't blocked.

There's a 'carpet' cover, Chris. Under that is the white / clear plastic membrane - this definitely keeps the water out! They all let go along the bottom edge after about 10 years, and then the boot fills up with water (well actually it soaks into the foam underneath so you don't realise until you find it under the rear seats!)

So true :)

Some roof rail/roof corrosion, this car may now get a black "Wrap" roof. I have always wondered what they would look like on the estate Xantia, this my be the excuse to try.

Sill rot and a hole. New sill or patch? we shall see when we cut this out.

Jet Washer + Paint bubble, paint bubble is the looser. They need to come off anyway so touch up paint for now.

Time to investigate the roof bar channels

errr :(
Screwdriver dug it out to have a look, the black is the zinc coating doing its job, not much "rush"....the pint next to the bars however has bubbles so i am still considering a vinyl wrap (black) roof as I cannot see a respray being worth it.

Some Bilt&Hamber converter as a temporary retardant until I decide with Paul what to do with the roof.

Well the leather looks like it will clean up well...

So, not that different from mine then - if I'd known you were looking for a project, you could have had it. Oh, well back to trying to sort out that stubborn, now leaking, brake pipe after work during the week (by way of a change from replacing the transfer box in the red Cherokee at weekends - on balance, the easier job).

As you're in touch, remember me to Jim, give him my best.
