I just changed the part number in my last post, as I realised I gave you the part for the Air Doser and not the MAF! So part 19208Q is for the MAF.

As for purpose - in this engine it's role is to measure the volume of fresh air entering the engine.

From this the engine ECU can:

Calculate the exhaust gas recycling rate.
Can limit smoke production during the transitional phases (acceleration, deceleration) by correcting the fuel flow.

So it impacts on when and how much of the exhaust gasses are returned into the engine. When the MAF is removed for testing, the engine can often run better - the engine ECU will utilise backup values in the absence of any coherent or live data from the MAF. If this happens, it usually means the MAF needs gentle cleaning or is faulty. It should be replaced as soon as possible as the car won't run efficiently using default values for long.

Dammit, that is the number for this MAF I have. I was hoping I was just given the wrong item.

So do the test - when the engine is p[laying up, disconnect the MAF. If it starts running better after a while then the MAF is crap. Try and get an original if poss.

Engine isn't playing up now though. Idle is probably as smooth as it has ever been.

It has none of the following (it previously had the last four until the EGR pipework was cleaned) :
  • The engine is very hard to start or turn over
  • The engine stalls shortly after starting
  • The engine hesitates or drags while under load or idle
  • Hesitation and jerking during acceleration
  • The engine hiccups
To a certain extent I can detect the following:
  • Excessively rich or lean idling
  • Gas Smell From Exhaust Pipe

I paid £124.34 for one in 2011
Then £132.43 six months later - the wheel arch liner fell off and the induction hose sucked in a load of water and grit and ruined the first one.

Currently £193.73 inc. VAT from Citroen.

However, have a look at this link - there are some good branded ones here half the price (Valeo, Magneti Marelli, Delphi, Febi Bilstein)

I presume Intermotor not a good brand, I think from recollection it was a cheap item.
Do you know who makes the Citroen ones or which people have good results with?

Like this one? I really don't want to outlay on another if it will not resolve the issue:

It would appear so. My engine is also an RHZ DW10ATED but there could be other factors involved and my car isn't here to check the part number on it.

Dave has a DW10TD engine Steve - not a DW10ATED. The MAF units are different parts. I checked against my old 2001 C5 which was a DW10ATED and that had 1920AG (no longer available) as the MAF.

https://www-troublecodes-net.cdn.amppro ... 2Fp0110%2F
The P0110 occurs when the PCM reads a signal in the IAT circuit which is outside expected voltages. This is similar to P0111 except that the P0110 is a less specific error code. P0111 is set when the sensor itself is most likely at fault whereas P0110 is a general circuit problem.

Note: “Circuit Malfunction” indicates that there is a malfunction in the control circuit, as opposed to a fault in a sensor or other component. With “Circuit Malfunction” codes, replacement of sensors and components in the affected circuit will almost never resolve the problem, since as the code suggests, the trouble is in the circuit. This distinction between “circuit” and “sensor/component” is a great help to anyone trying to diagnose a circuit malfunction code, since it narrows the list of possible causes down considerably.
Can anyone clarity if this fault description would apply to the xsara here?
I had previously had the multimeter across it and the signals seemed good back up to the harness, although not sure if an intermittent issue would have been noticed.

No, that's for a petrol engine.
