C5 height corrector.

Post by Gibbo2286 »

I thought some might like to see what a height corrector looks like on the C5 II and maybe others.
I had a problem with this one, took it off and stripped and cleaned the innards, at the same time I ordered a new one, this one worked ok but when the new one arrived I fitted it to be sure.

So here's the part, I've opened it up again so that you can see what's inside, the original fault was that the copper connectors inside on the boards had green corrosion spots which I cleaned off with a dry cloth and, as I said it, then worked ok.

Is there a better way to celebrate fixing your height corrector than a Sunday lunch? :)

This is interesting as my rear height corrector has in the past played up.
I’ve got around this by calibrating the computer to think that the car is much lower than it is and then adjusting the clamp manually to bring the height to the correct level.
I assumed this works because the resistive track had worn out in one place and now it’s using a different unworn area.

I recall that (some time back) somebody else has a problem with their height correctors. They found that the soldering on the connector pins had failed (not helped by the fact that the pins are square while the holes are round). Cleaning things up and re-doing the soldering got the correctors working properly again.

These look like press-fit. These things work ok from factory then cause troubles later on. Soldering is only temporary fix since the hole/pin don't match at all

The fitting connection was ok on the one in my pictures the fault was moisture on the pcb had caused the copper to go green in a couple of spots, as the car's fourteen years old I think it's reasonable wear and tear.

If it's just a bit of water damage, that's fine
