Considering the sill issue , wonder what clever @&#%'#- thought of the design for that area of the car , boasting a 12 year anti corrosion warranty was just naive , my zx though had spot on the driver side same area but that was sorted 3 years ago and not as big an area, to be expected of a car over 20+ years .

Plenty of videos on YouTube about engine bay jobs and space in the bay is tight my question if I don't or can't find a video , are the glow plugs front of or back of engine something I overlooked the other day when viewing the one I went to see.

Nearly brought a c3 few years back just missed it , what they like ?

Ours is great - it's the 1.6 HDi Exclusive. Goes like SOAS, and round here in hilly Wales we get a tad under 60 MPG. Driving position / seats are slightly higher which is why we got it. In the nearly 13 years since we've had it, it's only covered 43k miles. The only things we've had done is a new dealer-fitted headlamp (water ingress), the alarm module (I did a write-up on that), and the front suspension springs and struts and a new comms unit. Just recently had the windscreen replaced at a large crack appeared from the corner and worked its way across the screen one day Must of been a pothole although I do avoid those like the plaque where possible.

Incidentally they replaced it with the later athermic purple looking ones that are supposed to keep it cooler in bright sunlight - so didn't complain.

She's been faultless apart from that.

Not a bean - it's been solid and we use it as the daily now, leaving the C5 to keep the mileage down.

I'm finding 2.0 now and why are these more favoured than the 1.6, surely the fuel economy of the smaller engine would be the best option ?

Not to mention less emissions what difference do 400cc make ?

I had the 1.4hdi (206 sw bad design everything that could of gone wrong did but engine was good) few years ago and found that ran good.

What's the pros & cons ?

I think we touched on it a few posts ago - increasing fuel economy with less and similar performance - however the 1.6 diesel engine can suffer with the blocked oil strainer leading to turbo starvation and failure, plus blocked oil channels, that causes sludge and carbon damage.

Here are 2 further articles on the issues from separate sources that show the issues. Oil changes on these are recommended to be half the manufacturer times or even less. So without a full service record showing the changes, it could be Russian roulette with a second hand one.

Interesting read that so I'd be best getting 2.0L
Seen one with 160000 miles 06/7 just had recent cambelt and water pump plus service in November 19/ mot till late may
£750
Mot history points the sills both side had to be done to get it though it mot 2 yr ago.

Would this be worth a go at ?
I filled sills on an old ford many years ago around the 1984 model known for rusting , I drilled a small hole and pumped with a long nose oil can about a litre both sides of oil flushed oil from a service and had the car for 5 years sold it and the sills stayed Like new even the person who brought it off me he had it for 10 years no rot.

So the 2.0hdi seems a better build ..
Its just the sill issue they all have water backs up near a jacking point so I have read.

Any one had any issues that need keeping an eye on I know they all had gearbox problems not long after they came out did they all get recalled ?

How do the door cards come off ?

Remove:

• The interior trim cover of the door mirror ( 6)
• The exterior mirror (5)
• The door handle trim (4)
• The speaker grille (3)
• The screws (7) and (12)
• Disconnect the connector (10)
• The speaker (8)
• The screws (1), (2), (9) and (11)

Unclip the trim panel using trim removal tools.
Remove the trim panel starting from the bottom at " a".
Move the trim panel away from the door inner panel and lift at " b" to release the trim panel from the weather panel.

If necessary, remove the weather panel sealing sheet.

Thanks Marc very helpful , now I've got the dreaded rear wiper working in its own I've read this is a common old niggle with this car .

Cheap fix disconnect the live ?
