They already are. The nearest to me made itself infamous with Tesla owners by removing their chargers and putting in generic ones instead.

The acronym AUDI seems to stand for A***hole Usually Driving It!

I have to be slightly careful here, as my cousin does own an Audi TT (19 reg), but he appears to be an exception, as he does take other drivers (and their needs) into consideration.

I feel a sign that says "Any vehicle parked in this bay will be charged, so if you can't plug in expect a £200.00 bill from the ANPR network!!" would be useful! :-D

Two new Rapid Chargers next to the brand new Marks and Spencer at Alnwick less than 100 metres off the A1.
Run by Engenie, and at a Charge for Pay as you go at 36p per kWH. That is pretty much a petrol equivalent retail price. Not sure if there are any discounts for being in the Engenie club.

Is there something about VW drivers , thought it was an electric golf but no just the "blue motion" accessorising and an ordinary charging point blocker

I have seen, in the Newbury area, charging posts on the pavements (in the residential area near to the River Kennet). I have no more information than that, other that is in this link;

Thanks James
How much does it cost?

To charge using Pay as You Go access, it costs £0.24 per kWh. To charge using a SmartCable, the rate on your mobile electricity contract applies.
I think much as it would be simple for electricity charges for "road fuel" to be just a simple £/kWH it appears that unlike petrol which throughout the country is a "pay as you go price" without contracts, road fuel electricity seems always to want some form of contract to get a cheaper rate.

Doesn't it all just overcomplicate matters? EV Charging appears to want to adopt the mobile phone model, or the home energy model with its innumerable tariffs and standing charges, rather than the traditional simple no contract approach to buying road fuel.

Well with my conversion project in mind I thought I'd watch out for the local charging stations and see where they are. I was chuffed to drive into Tesco in Hatfield to see:

so I thought I'd go over and have a look as to how to use it. Bad move:

Not the greatest start to my exploration!! :o :(

Hertfordshire got an airing on BBC Question Time last night from Harpenden.
this was the question.

The announcement this week that fossil-fueled cars are to be banned in 2035. What is the govenment going to do to incentivise us to change cars?

The panel couldnt have known less about it, and obviously didn't answer the question asked. Indeed it appears ,unless it is a stunt, with a more generous reveal in the Budget, that the £3500 plug in grant incentive is going to be phased out.

Only one ev driver in the audience.....surely they could have dug up a few more to put their hands up, but one lady did and when asked how her experience of being an EV driver was, said.....
"I love it...but I live up the road and there is only one charging station in all of Harpenden..(possible exaggeration alert)...and there is always a queue of electric cars waiting to charge.......there are 18,000 registered EV owners in Hertfordshire (exaggeration alert? maybe not)....and you can count on 2 hands how many chargers there are....(that will be 10 or less then), so its........utterly ridiculous"
Panel nodding away.....

If anyone wants to check out if Hertfordshire's EV charging infrastructure really is appalling there is

Plugshare https://www.plugshare.com/ just clag in Hertfordshire in the search box

or

Zap Map https://www.zap-map.com/live/ put hertfordshire in the search box

Regards Neil

PS Daniel who asked the question, after the informed (not) answers concluded.
"Basically I dont think we have the infrastructure at all for it (round of applause from the audience), I think its unachievable. On 1st January 2036 you will still be able to drive your petrol car, they arent going to stop you going to the petrol station...Its about new cars and...people cant afford to buy new cars they are just so expensive"

Wouldn't disagree, a whole lot more needs to be done other than changing a date, to make it happen.
