EGR Removal
Would you attempt to remvoe this EGR yourself?
I think the EGR is stuck open so for the first time in its life I was going to remove it and get it cleaned. However, looking at these studs I am worried about snapping them. Would you just pour on a pile of WD40 and try it yourself?

Re: EGR Removal
I would certainly brush off all the crud and give it a spray and leave it to penetrate - then come back and have a look at it again - but the plate looks the most fragile and rusted.

Re: EGR Removal
How do you remove the inner nut? Access to it is very limited.
I've got pipe removed out of way and both sides soaked in wd40. Might give it a try this evening.

Re: EGR Removal
Nothing specific, this is the procedure:
Disconnect Battery (BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure)
Remove engine Cover
Uncouple the pipe (1).
Unscrew:
Prise apart pipe ( 7).
Remove:
N.B.: It is possible to replace the "CLIC" clip ( 2) with a screw clamp (identical to XUD engines).
ESSENTIAL: Replace the EGR valve seal.
Proceed in the reverse order to removal.
Tighten the nuts (4) to 1 dan.m.

Re: EGR Removal
Thanks - do you have the price/part no. for the EGR Valve seal and the EGR unit itself from Citroen?

Re: EGR Removal
WD40 won't even look at that; PlusGas MIGHT do the trick - especially if used alternatively with heat.

Re: EGR Removal
Just back in. Got EGR of easily enough once I realised that bolt 5 was actually 2 bolts. The nuts on the EGR required some finesse and will be replaced. For some help from brother and we removed the engine mount to give a bit of room to get at the rear of the engine.
The EGR itself was not to bed but I didn't realise just how strong the vacuum needed to be in order to move the valve. I'm not sure if mine is duff or this is the case. What vacuum is required achieved to the manual?
Anyhow, got the egr and the pipe (7) off and soaking overnight. And then the horror revealed itself. The union when the pipe links into the inlet was almost fully blocked. The corregated Union into the egr was likewise. The inlet itself is covered in a sludge like coating, so now it has to come off too.
Weekend fully booked now...
Does anyone have a diagram to show how to take off the inlet manifold? I've got four bolts of, but I think there are two underneath that I need to get at to loosen which will allow me to slide to inlet off.
For reference, car is 2001 with almost 199k. Egr and associated pipework have never been removed in its lifetime.

Re: EGR Removal
Get some else to do it for you!
If I thought carbon cleaning would have resolved this to some degree then I would have done it. We have a lot of tools and access to a lift, otherwise it would be a PITA.

Inlet manifold:
No procedure in my version of the docs, but it does book at 5.3 hours, so it's not straight forward!!

Re: EGR Removal
Decided not to remove the intake as I'd have to remove the exhaust manifold and I'd probably snap a stud doing so.
Are there any recommended sprays to clean the intake?

Re: EGR Removal
Dedicated EGR cleaner or carburettor cleaner - probably the same thing and mostly isopropanol I expect.

Re: EGR Removal
This is the inlet. Just going to use cleaner on it.
Should this link pipe from airbox to turbo have a heat shield on it? There was a lot of oil on it so trying to figure out where the leak would be at the back of the engine. Any ideas?

Re: EGR Removal
Is there anything else I need to check relating to the egr system when I have it off the road?
Would it be wise to try and clean it the inlet or would I just be pushing soot and dirt around the block?
Would anyone recommend blanking the egr off now?
