Xantia cabin heating

Post by peter306 »

Hi All,
My Xantia cabin heating has decided to stop playing. won't go above blowing ever so slightly warm air. So far i have checked
Both pipes to the matrix are getting hot.
Bled the system, both bleed valves, thermostat housing and heater pipe.
I can hear the stepper motor when i move the temperature slider.
The directional flaps all work.
The ambient/recirculated air flap works.
When i move the temperature slider to cold (blue) i get cold air, as i slide it to the right the air warms a bit then stays the same temperature all the way over to the right (red).
The air temp sensor has a signal, it ranges between 1.96 volts to 2.01 volts.
Cant check the ac computer as i don't have the gear.

So, anyone in the Royal Wootton Bassett area got a Lexia they are willing to put my car on.

Car is a 2000 Xantia 1.8 16 valve

What about the actual matrix itself? It's very possible that the matrix is full of crud and this is limiting circulation and therefore heat dissipation.

Is the slider (hot/cold) slightly "Springy" ?
Not unheard that the cables can kink.

I think that his car has automatic temperature control, so no cable on the temperature selector.

I would advise getting some live data with a Lexia, as it could be a bad reading from one of the temperature sensors.
It would not hurt to change the pollen filter if not done recently.

Hello again,
xantia v6 is right, temperature selection is electronic, pollen filter has been done.
I am left with either the cabin temp sensor, the A/C computer or something physical like the flap stuck or the matrix blocked.
that's why i finished with the Lexia request before i start taking more things apart.

I think that there is also a temperature sensor on the sir intake and another for the air after the heater matrix. Without diagnostics you are working blind.

Alistair, which system does your car have?, I thought all V6s had automatic temperature and fan control.

I think that yours has 2 mechanical cables, for recirculation and air direction, temperature control being electronic, essentially the same as the system under discussion here (but with an older version of ECU).

A check with VIN on Parts should show what's there.

Xantia v6, found the other sensor, just after the pollen filter, did you mean the cabin air sensor or another one on the other side of the box.

got the sensors out, tested and back in, resistance is changing as they are warmed up
Valeo 602588E, cold air in, start cold 8.6 ohms, after 1 minute 6.0 ohms, 5 minutes 4.7 ohms
Valeo 602587D, Warm ! air out, start cold 17.8 ohms, after 1 minute 12.6 ohms, 5 minutes 10.4 ohms
So both working but whether within specs, does anybody know :)
yes, i have PM'd a guy in the area about putting it on a Lexia but haven't heard anything back.

Alasdair are you still doing the Lexia.
