DS5 Fault Codes

Post by vladm »

Hi everyone, didn't quite find a propper topic for DS5 error codes but I'll ask here, given the fact its an "issue" in the end :)

So after replacing a faulty pressure regulator & high pressure fuel rail on my RHH (2.0 HDI) DS5, I noticed the dreaded "engine knock" for 10-15 mins idling than it kinda went away and the engine "sounds better". Can this be until the right operating pressure was reached?

On the other hand I've gotten:
P2562 - Variable resistance Turbocharger Position Incorrect in Relation to the Refference Value, not enought turbocharging INTERMITTENT - even if the engine was only idling
P1497 - Variable resistance Turbocharger Position Incorrect Relative to Requirement - INTERMITTENT

Also I get some BSI errors like U1F00 , B162C or B1818 which I've understood that might be generated by engine issues.

Could all these be related? Anyone had these before?

Thanks!

Reason: I've also split this into a new topic as the previous one is a bit too general

Pop your VIN up for me, so I can relate these codes directly to your engine ECU. I suspect you have the DW10CTED4 engine, but it will help anyway.

Ok, so we have:

P2562: Variable geometry turbocharger: Position incorrect in relation to the requirement (Not enough turbocharging).

Activation Reason: Positive discrepancy above 40% detected for 6 seconds between the position reference point and the measured position of the variable geometry of the turbocharger.

Conditions for Activation: Engine Running

Conditions for Disappearance of fault: Driving for 5 minutes when the engine is hot.

Downgrade Mode Present When this fault is active, the EGR functionality is deactivated and the Engine Management Light is lit.

Symptoms:Noise, Smoke from the exhaust, Lack of power or Loss of braking.

Suspect Areas:
  • Turbocharger (Variable geometry open)
  • Turbocharger solenoid valve
  • Electrical harness
  • Position indicator of the turbocharger
  • Vacuum circuit
P1497: Variable geometry turbocharger: Position incorrect in relation to the requirement (Not enough turbocharging) (APV).

Activation Reason: Positive discrepancy above 30% detected for 6 seconds between the position reference point and the measured position of the variable geometry of the turbocharger.

Conditions for Activation: Engine has been running for at least 6s

Conditions for Disappearance of fault: Driving for 5 minutes when the engine is hot.

Symptoms: Noise, Smoke from the exhaust, Lack of power, Loss of braking

Suspect Areas:
  • Turbocharger
  • Turbocharger solenoid valve
  • Position indicator of the turbocharger
  • Vacuum circuit
  • Electrical harnesses
U1F00: The BSI has not detected the occurrence of a fault sent by the ECU that recorded the fault code

B162C: Fault: accessories positive relay control and status not coherent: Relay commanded but inactive.

Cause: The control of the accessory positive relay is active even though the output of the accessory positive relay is inactive;
Relay commanded, accessory positive supply inactive (Voltage less than 5,6 V);
Fault confirmation time: 1 s

Suspect: This can affect supply of electrical components, suspect:
Fuses, Connectors, Built-in systems interface, Supplies protection and management unit.

B1818: There are a few of these, they normally have an other 2 characters after this code to distinguish, but generally relate to the oil measurement display error.

I have to ask - have you changed anything in the BSI using Diagbox? Any parameters for the Head Unit, displays etc? These last sorts of electrical issues (the last 3 codes) can be symptomatic of a mis-configuration in the BSI, so thought I'd ask....

Thanks a lot for your help! No haven't changed anything just ran diag on BSI & ECU.

I deleted the turbo errors (P2562 & P1497) and ran the car on idle for 15 mins, reving it from time to time slowly to @ 2500 rpm to build up boost pressure. These faults did not appear anymore. I'll testdrive the car on the real road tomorrow to see if the come up again.
"Conditions for Disappearance of fault: Driving for 5 minutes when the engine is hot." --> this might have happened

On the others, BSI related..I have no clue, I can't delete them and I swear I saw them change once or twice at different scans. Think something is faulty with the wiring or BSI

Update
P2562 & P1497 Turbo boost errors solved by replacing the boost controler. The turbo is a VGTs and it couldn't close enough, boost being alays "higher" than needed.
The check engine light came on at high revs than reset itself at engine shutdown. The boost controller replacement fixed this.

For the BSI, doesn't affect nothing in particular, think I need a sw upgrade.

Do you guys know the latest sw versions for ECU & BSI for DS5's?

Thanks!

Not really - you'll need a dealer to do that in any case - as they'll need to check any update is valid for your vehicle.

Re: DS5 Fault Codes

After engine replacement on my DS5, I have an error code related to electric steering lock, which I can not remove with my diagbox. When I try to enter and read this fault it says "communication error, the ECU has not been replied, Navigation not authorized"

I remember before engine replacement, when I run diagbox to read faulty messages, error message for electric steering lock only comes up if I do not turn off (and on) ignition when it comes to this step...but I could remove such "error"...now, even when I follow steps to turn off ignition and turn it back on, it comes up with error.

What is electric steering lock and what could cause its appearance in diagbox? It does not warn me on a dashboard. Is something wrongly connected during engine replacement? Car is running fine, without problems.

Electric Steering Lock? Not even sure what that is..... What is the actual fault code you are getting - maybe it's the translation?

Although this may not be relevant to a DS5, recently I was helping Michel with a VW Passat. That uses an electric steering lock mechanism instead of the older mechanical steering lock. I wonder if the DS5 has a similar system?

I can not enter into that section to read faulty code, when I try I got error message.

See enclosed photos on the link beneath (there is page 2 just click on the right arrow on the image).

Btw, as you can see on photo 1, I also have an error for the clock, it is always there even after deleting it, but clock are working fine

Maybe it is some glitch in diagbox as it is china copy of diagbox, don't know...

I managed to see faulty codes under electric steering lock

Here is the pic:

One more thing I noticed, if I remember well, before engine replacement, when I put ignition on, HUD would come up, now it only comes up when engine is fully started. Am I tripping something or it is working properly?

Basically, the electronic Electric Power Steering. That makes sense, why they call it a 'lock' is beyond me...

As for those codes they are all related to the vehicle electrical networks. Various faults can occur if there are communications issues to and from the BSI including for fault U1F03 87:
  • Problem with locking/unlocking using the remote control
  • Unwanted activation (without being requested) of the dipped headlamps and side lamps
  • Non-stopping of wipe
  • Activation of automatic wipe mode (+ warning lamp and/or message, depending on equipment)
  • Activation of intermittent wipe (4,5 seconds) with no customer action
  • No rear screen wipe
  • No wash functions
  • No maintenance function
  • The distance travelled for route 1 and route 2 on the trip computer is incorrect
  • Malfunction of the resetting of journeys 1 and 2 of the trip computer
  • Malfunction of the steering wheel controls
  • Malfunctioning of the buttons of the integral controls steering wheel
  • Activation of the vehicle speed limitation impossible
  • Activation of the vehicle cruise control impossible
  • Deactivation of the cruise control or speed limiter function impossible
  • Deactivating the cruise control
  • Deactivation of the vehicle speed limiter
  • The vehicle does not reach, or exceeds, the speed setting
  • Difficult or impossible to use the programmable limits
  • Difficult or impossible to adjust the speed setting (in cruise control or in speed limiter)
  • Unwanted activation of the cruise control or speed limiter function
and of course delays in the Head up display as you have mentioned. All these faults concern a fault in the CAN network.

The fault for U1F0000 is as it suggests, an event not recorded fault - which suggests a communication problem again.

So I would firstly go back and check all the electrical connections in case these have been disturbed - including those to the power steering module and to and from the fuse boxes and supplies protection boxes in the engine bay that supply the BSI.

If you find any connections are dirty might I suggest you use a proper contact cleaner on them? I have used Servisol in the past, and found it to be up to the job. You may not want the version with lubricant in it (as this might not help in a 'permanent' contact (as opposed to those in switches)), but if you get the right one (and with the battery disconnected as per a BSi reset) I would unplug each connector in turn, spray some contact cleaner in, and then plug/unplug the connector several times (to help remove any dirt/tarnish that could have built up). Clean connections on a network of any sort are essential to maintain good connectivity.
