Peugeot 107 horn sounds on full lock

Post by johntom »

Hi
Our 2008 107 has developed a fault whereby the horn sounds when the steering is turned to full lock in either direction. No obvious sign of damage etc behind the airbag etc so I have replaced the clock spring with one from a breakers and it still does it !
Apart from the replacement clock spring also being faulty is there anything else it could be ?
Thanks

I have tested continuity between both horn plugs on the clock spring (front and back) and there is continuity through the clock spring, including at full lock, so maybe it isn’t the clock spring unit?

I’ve wired in a new 2 pin horn today using a new earth from the rear clockspring plug direct to the horn and a new fused feed direct from the battery so the horn now works as it should. Can only imagine the steering column was earthing the original wiring somewhere when on full lock ?

Should the horn not have a relay? Horn current is usually pretty high, inductive, smd unkind to switch contacts. Easy to add.
