Not only do you get a great theme tune.....like how it slows down as the train pulls into Newcastle at night, but an excellent atmospheric intro to the narrative of the film, as Michael Caine has his finest hour on the silver screen, and returns to Newcastle in Get Carter.

The Train was in a tenuous link to my POTD, hauled by a Deltic.

In complete agreement with you there Neil, especially about it being Michael's finest performance. I did just notice that as the train arrives the station announcer gives out the train arrival using the 24 hour clock. I have a feeling that it should have been "9.40pm" in the sixties when the film was set? :)

My selection from the soundtrack of Fata Morgana

Only one word for it....."World Class Acoustic Guitar Playing" :-D

Liked the autoplay on from that track too with John Renbourne and Stefan Grossman just having a mess around
"at home"

I did wonder what the other had to do with Alexa. Sounded more like Robbie.

In the mid sixties I had an LP, Indo-Jazz, by the Joe Harriot & John Meyer double quintet that was sublime.
One of many LPs that 'went missing':(
The CD isn't the same and the YT offerings different again.

Just stumbled over this while digging for that:

Nice!

I have enjoyed my haggis and (sort of) neeps!

I may be an Englishman (who lived in Scotland in his youth), haggis is an acquired taste, but I have acquired that taste.

I do recall Kenneth McKellar, not with any fondness.
And that other geezer, Sandie MacWhatshisname was worse, squeezbox playing *********
