I have the misfortune to use London Bridge Station daily - & it is truly dreadful, clearly designed with no thought at all for the travelling public (only got seats & toilets last year - but nowhere near the platforms) BUT, at least it doesn't leak!

Now you have seriously tempted me to bring my March Meander forward a day to give me time to visit Beamish. I used to love the trolley buses and the chance to ride one again is very impelling. However I'm not sure if I could build in viewing the Bahrain Grand Prix on 22nd which is the day before my current departure date. I cannot extend at the other end as I have to collect SWMBO from the airport on the day after the existing finish date! So I'll need a hotel/pub/guest house in the York-Scarborough area at which I can see the GP. Answers on a postcard please? :-D

if you miss beamish Mick down the other side of the country on your way down is the Black Country Living Museum which has a couple, and promotes the Trolley Bus rides on their website...

You may well drive past not very far from the Sandtoft Trolley Bus Museum as you head to the Humber Bridge. but it is run entirely by volunteers and is generally only open to the public on open days. One of those open days coincided with a little holiday we had in Lincolnshire back in 2018.

Tremendous Chris, love the "Three Tuns Turnaround", bring the wires and the Trolleybuses back! The motorbus in urban areas is absolutely awful, no matter what you try to do with it's exhaust fumes.

Can't help feeling that the aesthetics of overhead wires and the desire for modern city scapes in the 60's were probably a disproportionate factor in the demise of the Trolley bus, although the ageing of the infrastructure and the go-anywhere flexibility of the diesel motorbus undoubtedly chipped in.

I like how the proud corporations at work in our cities emblazoned their coat of arms on the side, and had their own liveries in different colours.

They still had trolley busses in Maidstone when we got married.

We stay in the Travelodge at Scotch Corner (Skeeby) when we go to Beamish, its also convenient for the North York Moors and dales, Herriot and Heartbeat country are also nearby.

A "Chinese six" trolleybus - wonder what the design philosophy was behind that.

Trolley buses & roundabouts always reminds me of one on the outskirts of Bournemouth, where they went round it anticlockwise.

In Naples there's a longish hill that was operated by trolleybuses, it was fairly narrow - & had cars parked both sides. Never understood how that worked.

That is a brilliant video Neil!!! Well found!! =D> Thoroughly enjoyed it and picked out loads of rarer cars, Dormobile, Reliant 3/25 Regal, Aston Martin DB3/4, Ford Classic to name but a few! Was the white Triumph at the beginning, which gave way, a Toledo or a 1300? I couldn't quite decide!! :) :)

I would guess thats early 1960's and the triumph 2000 came out in 1963, so I would guess thats an early triumph 2000.

Simon cars as ever has a decent image. What do you think?

Brilliant video, Neil!
Looks like Bournemouth was well populated by Mini's, 1100's, 101's and Anglias, with just the very occasional P4 and P5.
Clean, silent, fast, reliable - and we did away with them (the Trolleys, that is): crazy. #-o #-o

Lovely trolleybus video Neil, very nostalgic, probably the best selection of 1950's cars I've seen on a video.

I remember the trolley busses from the '40s, I stared in wonderment as they climbed the hill opposite the park that had pictures made with paste pots and nightlights and a bandstand.
