Hi there,
I am thinking of replacing the back right side passenger door instead of trying to fix some scrapes and buckle damage. and respray.
It would be the same cost to just replace it with a secondhand door in the same color. The car is a lefthand drive, just in case, it makes a difference.
My question is, who has done this, is it complicated and time-consuming. I am handy and not scared to do it. It has electric windows and if l just reconnect all wires back is it going to work or are there other complications with the lock system etc. It would be better to find one complete perhaps
with everything all together. just bolt-on. I have seen one which is the right color and it is just the shell and l would need to transfer over every part and that is what l am a bit afraid of doing without a head -up on how easy or complicated it is.

There will be more to it than that - you'll still need to dismantle a full replacement door as you'll have to connect up all the wiring to the electric window motor and locking module etc. So whatever you decide, you will need to remove the door card, drill out the rivets, take out the speaker, door card and trim to be able to disconnect the existing wiring plugs and reconnect your old one - so in effect you need to do the job twice - one to disconnect the wiring from your old one, then again to disconnect and reconnect your old wiring harness plugs once it is fitted.

I am shortly to attempt this very swap on the passenger front door of an 07 plate Passat. I've gone for a whole complete door with all the hardware, so *in theory* it should be plug and play..

Just try and get as near to the build date of your original car, in case any of the door control modules / wiring was modified... nothing worse than finding that out when you have it in pieces

Let me know if there was any complications. Being a back door on mine, Perhaps little less complicated than having the key lock perhaps .

Thanks for replies. A door complete must be the way to go , to buy a shell will l guess be a hell of a lot more work.
Be good to hear from someone though who has actually done this.
