Berlingo 09 Intermittent ABS warning light

Post by Charris13 »

Hi all,
I'm new here.
I have a Citoren Berlingo 09 Multispace, which has an intermittent ABS problem.
It seems to come on when I drive over 50 ish and stays on until I switch the car off.
When re-starting the car, the warning light may or may not come on depending on length of time since used last, but if it does come on, soon goes off after a short time, only to re-appear if I go over 50 again.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Caz

Hi and welcome Caz

There are several reasons why you are getting and ABS light - it may be a faulty ABS speed sensor that is causing the intermittent faults, or a worn ABS sensor wire - but the only way you will know is to get it diagnosed. There should be a stored fault code that may indicate if it a speed sensor and if so, which one. Has any work been done on brakes lately? It's not uncommon for people to have work done and the mechanics have disturbed or damaged a sensor in the process.

Thank you for the quick repsonse Mark. No work to the brakes recently. I have a home code reader, not sure if that'll work? But I'll give it a go. If not probably like you say it needs to be plugged in somewhere, so we know what we're dealing with. Thanks again

You might be lucky - but aftermarket code readers can't always interrogate the more advances systems like the ABS / ESP ECU. Give it a go anyway - nothing to loose, otherwise try and find somebody with Diagbox that will be able to read it for you.

That sort of fault can also be triggered if you have mismatched tyres.
