Video of 1.6 HDi Not Starting

Unread post by ldare2000 »

Hi
I charged the battery in my dead Picasso and filmed it trying to start. I was driving, pulled onto my drive, Oil Pressure message came on. Checked the oil, drove to shop at the end of the road later that night and it sounded rough. Jumped back in car, it stalled and wouldnt start.

2009 1.6 HDi

Thanks in advance
Louis

Yes, it does sound like it's really struggling to start to be honest and the first thing I would suspect is the battery or the starter as Doctle says - after listening to that. It sounds like it just doesn't have any welly.

Batteries only have a limited life and 5 years is pushing it. So although you may have recharged it - if it's only holding 50-60% of capacity then it's going to fizzle out pretty quickly in this weather. But the starter is certainly worth getting checked.

As for the battery put the headlamps on main beam and see if the really dim down when trying to start it.

I can't see how the engine could seize that quickly if you've been driving it Louis - even if there was an oil problem.

When we had low oil pressure on ours, it killed the vac pump - the internals came out in bits. You could whip the pump off and check whether it can be turned easily or not.
