Citroen C5 X7 -10 Height adjustment

Hey, today i measured the height of my car from the center of the hub up to the wheel arch.

I read in several other threads where the common measured distance is 41,5cm in front and 38cm in rear.

I had:
Right front:44,5cm
Left front: 43,5cm
Right Rear: 42cm
Left rear: 42,5

I will try to adjust to the common measured distance in a few days, but my questions is.

1.
How can it differ almost 1cm on each side front and rear?

2.
I have been feeling that the car has had a hard suspension even in comfort mode, could this increased height be the cause?

There is specific way to measure the ride height and adjust the ride

Check one of my posts from earlier this year where Marc posted the correct procedure.

I have NOT been able to proceed further due to no comms with suspension ecu.

1) Easy, because a) tyre pressures may be slightly different, b) tread wear may be uneven on the tyre, c) the angle / level of the ground. That’s why the suspension has a tolerance value.

2) In Sport mode, there should be a distinct difference ( mainly in reduced roll and felt more when cornering), but not so much with straight ahead driving when in this mode.

So those measurements are not conclusive. If the suspension is generally hard, then look to other issues, such as spheres, or try bleeding the system - on flat ground, switch to highest suspension, then to lowest suspension, remove LDS cap gently to allow pressure to escape, the leave for 2 minutes engine running. Then turn the steering wheel slowly, full lock left to right 5 times. Check the LDS fluid is not fizzing and check the levels. Replace the cap and raise to normal suspension.

If it makes you feel any better, mines the same.

I did the same as you - measured from the centre of the wheel to the top of the wheel arch on the front and there's a measurable difference between left and right.
It can't be down to tyre pressure or tread wear as that would only affect the measurement if you were measuring from the ground to the wheel arch.

Thankfully mine rides and handles fine so I've not shown the difference any real concern.

Okay i have now been out and i did as GiveMeABreak said, highest position, then lowest, etc etc and when releasing cap i heard a small amount of air escaping, and after turning the steering wheel 5 times the fluid level dropped abit, so there was air in the system. Despite this the fluid level was above max, so i fixed that so that it is now correct.

After doing that i went for a test drive, the car was as stiff as before, but after driving a few kilometers, i pressed sports mode, and unpressed it, several times. After that the car feels softer to me.

It might be that the extra fluid cylinder that works in comfort mode was "stuck"? And it got loose by activating and deactivating sportsmode several times?

Another question i have tho is, from what I've read the suspension should "Re-level" when passengers getting in the car etc. To simulate this i (80kg) stood on the tow hook, the car bowed down in the back, but didn't go back up the the initial position. What is your suggestions for this?

Was the engine running? If not economy mode may have prevented it running the pump until the engine was started.

Secondly, check the height corrector although If the car is rising and lowering ok on command, I'd expect it to be working ok.

Instead of standing on the tow hook, open the tailgate or boot and sit in. Then see if it corrects....

Yep engine was running, I'll testing sitting in the boot tomorrow!

Another question i got is, when you take the measurement from the front and rear subframe for setting the height, the car should be in the normal position, but how do you then get access to measure? It's pretty tight under there. Same thing when doing the adjustments on the ARB.

That's why the four post lift is stated - as they will be level and you can gain safe access to underneath the vehicle to take the measurements using the tool under the subframe (for the height elements of the measuring).
