Location for the TPMS ECU

Hi All,

Under what part of the global search is the tpms ecu located. Is part of the BSI under ABS ?

I want to disable to TPMS meantime.

No it's a separate ECU that will be listed when you've done the Global Test. Look for 'Under Inflation Detection' and the control unit is 'DSG'. You'll need to go into on the list after the Global Test and have a hunt in the subsequent menus IIRC. If you disable it, I'm sure you're aware that you can't re-enable it without having the wheels re-paired again.

And the re-pairing process will need an extra item of equipment known as an exciter.

You can buy an exciter from flea bay for around £35 to work with many brands.

I've done it on an X7 before, and remember it took me a while to work it out, but this is what I said at the time:

I managed to turn off the TPMS (I think - hopefully John will confirm!) - trawled all through the BSI and the TPMS ECU, but couldn't work it out, then found that you have to go in to Customer Configuration and accessories, then you can find the place to turn it off. There was also an option in there to set tyre size, but the wheel change is on hold at the moment, so didn't need to change that.

I realise mine is a little different being a 407, but, when I disabled them I had to do it in three different ECUs. TPMS, BSI and Radio. Not doing all 3 caused it to shout at me.

Just noticed the other 2 replies,

Here is how far I got, global test Under Inflated Tyres ecu (DSG), opened Disable/Enable TPMS and it said use the accessories menu.

First of all where is that ?

Having read Richard's reply I presume under customers options.

If anybody can confirm same I would be grateful.

Just make sure you note every step on paper to allow to back track if a change doesn't do anything.

Finally done,

Since my C5 x7 is 2010 model this was an optional extra and required activation on customer receiving the vehicle. Therefore to deactivate TPMS you have go into the delivery to customer box open same into sub-menu scroll down to find Under inflation tyre box open same and then choose deactivation box.
Diagbox then confirms deactivation.

I suspect after 2012 itis done via the gobal test, but remember 01/01/2012 registered vehicles it is mandatory this systems is operating correctly as it has become a MOT fail not an advisory since May 2018.

Yes thanks for that last addition Kenny - it is a legal requirement for it to be operative on vehicles first registered on or after 01/01/2012 and we do not condone anything that will disable it for cars after this date.

Yes Marc, I thought it was important I mentioned that.

But the good news is whilst trying to find out where deactivated the TPMS I found where the sensors information is stored and I shall match this up and activate the TPMS later. There is a lot of info stored under the TPMS ECU very useful.

Next the suspension ecu problem but it can wait until the temperature rises currently - 3 C outside and I have a steering gaiter boot to fit for MOT in Jan2020.
