Caught a trailer for this new program coming up on Quest at the end of June.

My Eyes pricked up if you like a nice mixed metaphor, when I saw a Blue Lancia Fulvia on the trailer.

I wish I could convert W. Only 70k miles and in pretty good shape.. just a small amount of corrosion in the usual places. She's had an easy life.
An Ideal vehicle to convert as you could put battery boxes in the engine compatment and estate boot and the weight would only improve the ride.. although may not improve the roll

I posted this up on the "spotted" thread albeit a spot on "Plugshare" a site that has information on charging locations. I was right in my assumption of it being from the Netherlands. The photo is from Stannersburn on the way up to Kielder Northumberland. He clearly made it from the ferry from Amsterdam to North Shields, and headed for the wilds. The picture was take 28th December 2015....I'm even more impressed with their pioneering spirit! Is there more to the story of that conversion or that trip.....

Internet ferreting welcomed :-D be my guest

...I've done a little bit myself and I can reveal whats underneath the bonnet and in the boot!

Flickr has these images of AR-21-81. It is identified as a Citroen 2CV 1965 and these photographs were captured by Wouter Bergman 05-05-2012 at Citromobile 2012, Vijfhuizen, the Netherlands.
Not much narrative, but the pictures are good

Well this should tell us a little more of the story.....if it was just that little more in focus.

Well What is AR-21-81 doing now.

It appears it is now orange and used by Netherlands TV programme Een Vandagg as a vehicle to interview various guests in.

Well the French Government are helping out with this

"If you own a perfectly fine conventional automobile but want to join the EV revolution, you have two choices. Engineer an electric drivetrain swap yourself, which involves hours and hours of lying on your back on a creeper in your garage, or buying a new electric car. Now, if you live in France, there’s a third way. Transition One will take your current car, remove the existing internal combustion engine, replace it with batteries and an electric motor, and give it back to you in about 4 hours."

Have a read......It has to be part of the transition in some shape or form.

That is a great idea for classic mini owners who are keen and capable. However it is not a great way for the ordinary person to get into an ev as by the time you add the cost of a classic mini, even a mini city and the possible labour costs I think you will be looking at circa £15-17k for a rather low ranged ev! Much better surely, to buy a used Leaf or similar for that sort of budget and get a much better range. :)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

I have come across them before Gibbo in my meandering on the net but thanks for the link.

I have a feeling they did a full on conversion job rather like RBW do for the MGB, and they were eye-wateringly expensive. Maybe there wasnt a market for that with the MINI and they have come up with a conversion kit, although as Mick mentions the battery capacity which comes with the base kit is pretty poor.

Found it here...
This was an article from autocar indicating that Swindon Powertrain were to produce 100 Swind-E classic minis at £79.000 a piece. That was February 2019....maybe they have changed their plans.

Thought I would throw this video up for you DIY'ers.

An example of using a Nissan Leaf motor and Inverter in your own conversion project...

A lot of the hard work of figuring out how to control the inverter is already done for you by the people who designed the VCU (replacement brain) that allows the motor to work outside of an actual Leaf.

Interesting to note that when he spins the motor up on the bench that it's actually quieter than him talking!

I would love to do this with my Xantia.
The extra weight of the batteries would make the Xantia ideal.
My Xantias improve ride with more weight.
You could put a false floor in the boot and with batteries in the engine compartment and the old fuel tank compartment, have a fantastic range.

In the initial developments of affordable conversions, there could always be a market for old leafs :-D
