Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
I suppose that mini's etc using engine oil kind of indicate that a lighter oil is adequate.

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
Not surprising that the oil companies want to get a piece of the action with their "special fluids" for EV's

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
The 5 speed manual transmission on my BT50 (Ford Ranger) is spec'd for something like "Automatic fluid 'M' ". Trying to find out what on earth Automatic fluid M actually was proved mildly challenging

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
If you go on to the Castrol website, there is info (tech spec, vehicle compatibility) for each of their oils/transmission fluids. They cover just about everything.

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
I used several of the oil checker websites when I looked into what oil to use in my truck's gearbox about 5 years ago. They either said 'refer to manufacturer' or where completely wrong ! A pinch of salt required with your gearbox oil

It was ever thus.
To bring it back, I did see an i3 in central Newcastle yesterday.
There were probably loads more but trying to navigate that rat-run occupied most of my attention.

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
You were lucky to get out of Newcastle Steve, and avoid the trawler net of a road system around John Dobson Street which eventually captures you in unavoidable bus lanes.

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
Agreed. I used to work in Newcastle, mainly Jesmond but was all over the city all the time, collecting supplies mostly.
It has been a while and the traffic has increased but also the mad bus lanes and sudden lane changes are confusing and somewhat terrifying. I avoid it where possible.
Didn't have a lot of choice yesterday, had to show up at the Swedish Consulate to prove I was still alive.
Parked in the civics car park between a wire fence and a works Transit with only 18" to get out of the car, the door trim caught in the fence ad was pulled off
Gassed in the civic while waiting, sodding perfume/deodorant/aftershave. Served some burned tasting coffee. It wasn't looking good.
Went in at the same time as a Finnish couple who I had expected would be seen separately but we all sat at a round table and just chatted for the best part of an hour, the lady in charge was very informal and the Finnish couple, who were known to her, were great. She just stamped their documents without any questions.
I had taken all sorts of ID with me but she barely looked at them, just my passport - they were all amused by my old driving licence taken when I was twenty.
All in all a very pleasant and unexpected outcome.
I could have used a notary public but still risked the perfume problem and be charged >£60 for the pleasure.
The drive into and out of Newcastle was nowhere near as bad as I had expected, other than leaving the civic carp park the wrong way.

There is an Official Department of Transport Consultation paper out on the Green Number Plate thing should anyone wish to put in a response deadline Tuesday 14th January 2020

Needs some garish green numberplates so the masses realise its an electric car (where =sarcasm....so poorly catered for in the world of emoticons)
Regards Neil
As to the colour scheme options : all green defeats the original purpose for having yellow and the two with green dot or bar don't really convey the meaning. I'd be tempted to go for standard plates with the well known red "lightening" sign for electricity at either end, something like this:

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
This is just a cheap trick to make it easier to hit everyone one else - but that aside (a) it does all rather assume we'll be out of the EU (b) isn't blue the colour adopted by the manufacturers?

Re: Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?
Two big Exhaust pipes, but plugged in at the side.......its.....a hybrid.
But how mild a hybrid is it?
Well its got a 2 litre ICE engine, so not just a "range extender".
Its one of these
BMW 3 SERIES 330E M SPORT WLTP Electric range (combined) 34 − 36 miles

Here it is, charger point hogginghttps://www.whatcar.com/news/2019-bmw-3 ... ate/n19007
"To make sure the petrol engine stays switched off, you need to put the 330e in its pure electric driving mode and avoid using the lower reaches of the accelerator pedal. However, even when using the regular driving modes, the 330e will power itself along using mostly its electric motor so long as there's charge in the battery and you're driving gently. "
