Hidden away on Channel 4. Fascinating and well presented.

If you want another take on the Nash Equilibrium/trap try this. You may be able to think of an example of such a Trap/equilibrium right here right now.

"The best result will come from everyone in the group doing what's best for themselves, and for the group."

If that sort of thing is a bit too heavy, here's another little snippet from the programme which quite a few FCF members may have come across.....
The problem.....Squabbling from the back seat....the situation going on holiday.

First the most useless response
Response 1 "The non-credible threat"
"Right that's it. Holidays cancelled, turning the car round, we're going home."
Both you and the squabblers know that this isn't going to be carried out.
Response 2 "The Credible Threat"
"If you don't shut up we are going to be spending the first day of the holiday visiting an art gallery"
For "art gallery" substitute anything the squabblers hate and they know you like.
Even better though
Respone 3 Pre-Commitment Grand Gesture
"If one of you starts arguing again you are going to go to bed at six o'clock all week and the other one can stay up as late as they like."
Gives the squabblers a dilemma, and a negative consequence of starting a squabble, and a positive consequence of not starting a squabble
In order to get what you want any adversary has to believe you have the credibility and commitment to go through with your threats.
Wonder if there are parallels in grander scale disputes and negotiations :-D

Enjoyed this the Secret Britain Episode featuring the Yorkshire Dales and Yorkshire moors. From Whitby Yards to
french Glassmakers in Rosedale from a few centuries ago , gliders off the top of Sutton Bank to the splendidly isolated Tan Hill Inn, (and if you happen to be asked whats the link between the Arctic Monkeys and British Seapower......they have both done gigs at the Tan Hill Inn!).

Did that very thing just today Steve. Bit of a gusty wind on top and they were using the winch to launch the gliders.

Must revisit one day, it has been over fifty years since last time. They used a single prop airplane to drag them into the sky back then.

It could be worth watching "Rip Off Britain" on the BBC today. Some people have had problems with their cars due to contaminated fuel. One story was about a 10 year old Land Rover Freelander with low mileage. The owner always filled up at a Sainsbury fuel station on the route to work. One day, not long after filling up, the car died. To cut a long story short, the fuel system had to be rebuilt, and the engine and turbocharger replaced. Cost was well over £15,000!!!

According to an expert the problem is (in part) down to the addition of biofuel since 2008. Under certain conditions this can absorb water from the atmosphere, while biodiesel can end up with a lot of crud. The problem is that one person could get contaminated fuel, while the next customer (getting the same fuel from the same pump) might not.

I often wonder where they find such people, that last sentence is a real cop-out.

Apparently next week (01/12) Top Gear will have an Electric Car special. No more than that was said though.

Just watched the first of three programmes on BBC iPlayer, BBC Four (from 2015)
Sound of Song – The Recording Revolution

First programme followed sound recording technology from earliest Edison cylinders and gramophone disks, early microphones, radio and electric recording. Mixed with fabulous archive footage and museum pieces, and how film sound developed.

BBC Four has produced many splendid programmes about music, artists, songs, music and musicology, and this one didn't disappoint. Early jazz and blues, Irving Berlin, Louis Armstrong, Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby - all being set free by better and better mic's and recording kit.

Next: Tape, Abbey Road, Beatles, Wall of Sound . . .

Wonderful stuff, excellently presented by Neil Brand.

For the lockdown, BBC2 is to screen a clutch of Ealing Comedies - every afternoon for a week, starting 6 April, with School for Scoundrels (w/ Ian Carmichael). 7 April, The Man in the White Suit (Alec Guinness). That's as far as iPlayer lists at the moment.

It's hard to believe how stupid some (many) of the contestants are, I wonder if they'd go into a betting shop and put a fifteen thousand quid bet on the toss of a coin.
One guy last night was at least clever enough to get almost there and then stick.

As for Clarkson I think the Beeb dropped a clanger letting him go, even my 83 year old fiend says she likes him.
