Does anyone else find this annoying?
Hi Guys. Not been doing much this last few days except watching TV. Every few minutes there's an advert for "just eat". The ads are fairly poorly made but on all the time. Fried food you only have to walk to the door for can't be a good thing and most take away food is fried and all of it seems to be unhealthy. Maybe Im just old and grumpy!

Re: Does anyone else find this annoying?
You are obviously watching the wrong channels - - I've not seen the ads at all during this mega period of sport on TV!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: Does anyone else find this annoying?
Have you ever knowingly bought anything from adverts interjected at half time in a sporting occasion in which you are "engaged" . I have been watching a lot of Rugby recently but I am not about to buy a Land Rover anytime soon.
Saw a MG electric advert for the first time on TV today but I dont think it was during the rugby coverage.

Re: Does anyone else find this annoying?
Not that I can think of, I am the advertiser's worst enemy anyway as I treat them merely as a potential source of comedy but of no genuine use whatsoever!! Recently though, I have been irritated by ads for vaginal freshness products and similar dissorders presented when I am tucking into my bangers and mash !!

I avoid all the advertising nonsense by not watching TV.
iPlayer is the only and rare concession I make.

I dont watch much sport maybe darts or snooker do its usually what the missus is watching. TV is pretty awful I don't know how or why she watches this stuff, the ad breaks are way more interesting than the shows

If it's the one where the woman ends up disappearing into the bag of food - then yes - ridiculous - and also seeing as the entire family look like twiglets.doctle wrote: ↑02 Nov 2019, 17:58 Hi Guys. So, in the 20-odd years I've not watched TV, it seems that the programmes have got worse - while the ads remain as dire as ever.

Re: Does anyone else find this annoying?
It's not the shows that irritate me they are usually bad except maybe for Newsnight its these particular ads sometimes they are shown after government sponsored ad to get fit and eat healthily. Both the Irish and British governments have sugar taxes and are talking about more measures to combat obesity and they allow this??? In my village there is 1 takeaway everything is fried except the burger buns, many takeaways are like that.

Re: Does anyone else find this annoying?
What annoys me is the trend to ban everything.
I've earned the right to be unhealthy, and fast food delivered to your door isn't something new. You used to have to pick up the phone and talk, now you just pick up the phone and tap, and you don't need to grub around down the back of the sofa to find enough cash.
On a similar vein, I was in Amsterdam last weekend and since I have Google pay on my watch all I had to do was hold my wrist to a machine and it gave me a burger.

Have you "earned" the right to treatment for diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, kidney transplants, heart bypass, stents, lifelong expensive medication etc all of which is preventable. You used to be able to smoke a pipe on the bus however people know better now.Homer wrote: ↑03 Nov 2019, 19:32 What annoys me is the trend to ban everything.

Re: Does anyone else find this annoying?
I take very little notice of what is supposed to be good for you and what isn't. I have always eaten what I like but have a varied diet. I have always liked butter, it was supposed to be bad for you, but now they say it isn't. I have to keep my weight down as I'm diabetic but I don't eat anything special just less of what I like. I'm 80 now, still here, still repairing my cars and fairly fit.

Re: Does anyone else find this annoying?
<Tongue slightly in cheek - ON> If they're banning foods that can be bad for you, then surely the next (il)logical step is to ban sports and pastimes that can be hazardous to health. Or is it not ok to expose yourself to possible harm by eating 'bad' foods, but perfectly ok to expose yourself to possible harm by partaking in potentially hazardous sports and pastimes ? <Tongue slightly in cheek - OFF>

Re: Does anyone else find this annoying?
Compare the amount of people engaging in dangerous sports to those dining on fast food there's no comparison and usually people injured doing dangerous stuff are injured occidentally. Stuffing yourself with rubbish that's known to be harmful is no accident. I bet you could get insurance for dangerous sports but imagine the premium to cover you for living on a diet of lard, sugar and salt.
Sure people ate this kind of stuff in the past however they were able to counter some of the effects by working hard every day and they still had a low life expectancy
