3008 2.0 150 emissions issue

Post by shedman »

Hello got a strange issue with the emissions at low revs (1000-2000 revs) if I press the throttle down slowly emissions are 0.03 and will hold that all the way to 5000 revs but when the throttle is blipped up to 2000 revs like it is done in mot test the emissions will go up to 0.70 or maybe just above, the limit on the car is 0.51 this is causing issues at the test centre luckily the tester is lenient. Many control parts have been changed on the engine but nothing has been done with the injectors, could this be an injector issue.
hopefully some one has experienced this. :(

Presume that is a smoke (opacity) figure, as it's a diesel.
- Are you on supermarket/budget fuel?
- Did you do a motorway run at high revs just before the test, to clear the system?
- How many miles on the clock?
- Have you tried a dose of either Wynn's diesel fuel treatment or Miller's Diesel Power Plus (1:200 both, flr a remedial clean)?

Normal for diesels to put out a higher level of emissions when the throttle is booted, but run relatively clean when gradually taken up the rev range. Booting the throttle can simply produce a burst of over-fuelling, and shift accumulated grot in the exhaust, which an "Italian tune-up" will purge.

Chris, yes smoke meter reading.
all you have mentioned has been done but this is how they seem to test the emissions at a mot test just give it a boot full and give you the bad news
This first came to light last year when my mpg dropped to 42 mpg it usually sat around 47 mot confirmed emissions out of spec, since then many things have been done and mpg has been raised to 53 urban and 58 extra this is with conservative driving. I have checked the wife’s car with my analyser and this is not happening you can boot the throttle anyhow and always a constant in spec reading.
Disagree with the supermarket fuel theory as it all comes from the same tanks at refinery, if this was true the roads would be littered with broken down vehicles, I drive heavy plant on red diesel for many years no issues at all no cleaning additives at all in diesel.
There is an issue with the engine with over fuelling but finding the issue is another story no fault codes have ever been generated..

A 2010 car should have a DPF? If it's making visible smoke then it's not working, and is likely broken up internally. I'd be considering getting it off, and having a look inside....

Or has been "fixed" by a previous owner.

If it is actually 'smoke' and if so, what colour is it? If it's black or sooty, then the DPF is not doing its job and that will need investigation.....

If this is the DW10CTED4 then they do have a DPF for sure.

Thanks for the reply’s, yes the car has a dpf, and no it has not been doctored, and it has been removed along with everything else to do the turbo about two weeks ago, all internal was intact and was pretty clean to be fair, this has since has been given a manual regen to clean out the system since all was removed.
No smoke can be seen now coming out of exhaust but could be seen prior to the turbo being rebuilt as the turbine was sticking at low revs, the oxygen probe was also changed has it was totally blocked up with soot, it is the smoke meter that is telling me the raise in emissions and the mot tester.
if the accelerator pedal is pressed down slowly the emissions will be 0.03 all the way through the rev range to 5000 revs it is when the pedal is blipped (1000- 2000 revs)down they go wild.
