Just looked back through it, it appears to be my first post :rofl2:

Basically to boil it down, the RD45 can replace the RD4. If the screen you have is of an old software version then you will need to get a newer one that can show USB Bluetooth and hands free symbols etc. (SW version 71 or newer IIRC)

I bought the RD45 and newer screen on ebay.

I also had to install a microphone and run my own wiring as I couldn't find the other end of the existing microphone wire behind the dashboard.

Why does my radio not pick up M Wave ? Is it the radio or the aerial? Anyone know!

Does it appear to switch to MW and then nothing is there? Does it tune down to 198KHz (Radio 4 Long Wave) and is that there?

Hi Paul,

When I press the band button on radio and reach MW there is nothing at all! Not even 198KHz! Any thoughts?

Unfortunately not. I was hoping that LW might have been there which might have been a pointer.

Hi Paul,

What where you thinking could have been the issue if the radio could have gotten mw or 198 kHz?

Please pop up your VIN - so I can see exactly what system you have. This will also server for any other problems you may have later.

I'm going on my experience with my X7 Tourer.

This has two aerials in each of the rear fixed windows. One side is for AM/FM and the other is FM only. There are inline amplifiers for each aerial. So I was wondering whether one of the amplifiers had stopped working if you have a similar system. Also, on the X7 of my era, there isn't a separate MW and LW, just an option for AM which encompasses both bands.

Whilst waiting for the VIN confirmation - I suspect the OP has a SMEG unit Paul - which will not have LW, only the AM (MW) variant and may possibly have DAB as well. Well know more when we have the VIN

Right, you don't have the SMEG digital receiver, you have a dual band RD45 unit.

So I would suggest getting a diagnosis with Lexia / Diagbox to see if the fault can be pinned down - but here is the aerial routing - but note you do not have all the options shown!
C4 Aerial.PNG
You only the following:
(1) AM / FM1 Aerial Base, (2) Aerial Wire, (7), Aerial Cable (8) Aerial Cable, (15) Aerial Adapter, (70) Fixing Nut, (71) Bolt & (75) Fastening Clip on your vehicle.

Usual suspects are a short - water ingress around the aerial base causing corroding of the aerial base components. Sometimes you can see water stains from the rear interior ceiling light near where the aerial base is located and accessed under the headlining.
