It is quite a phenonemal structure.

In March 1876, the first brick was laid and the first arch was completed in June 1877 and all 82 arches were constructed within 13 months. On 5 July 1878, Lieutenant Colonel Tryon keyed the final arch in a ceremony to mark the viaduct's completion.

Imagine the time it would take now to complete such a project....there would be 10 years of preliminary ramblings for a start before a brick was laid. Imagine specifying in the contract that the bricks would have to be all fired on site and made from local clay!

The answer to your poser is Northamptonshire and Rutland, and the viaduct according to wiki has various names which if cobbled together would make a decent name for a Law firm

Welland Harringworth and Seaton!

Excellent answer Neil, award yourself the points and have a celebratory beer in The Pickled Egg. I'm off to bed now to get up for the Japanese GP qualifying and race at 01.30. Have a good evening all!!(memories of Dixon of Dock Green there as I wrote that!) :-D

PS the only salient point you missed out is that it is the longest brick built structure in the UK!!

Seems appropriate to dig this up seeing as Peter Davison and Christopher Timothy have just recreated the same scene in their little Car Journeys programme which aired tonight on Channel 4

Our own recreation

I am a big fan of ACGAS having read all the books, in fact I am currently rewatching the whole series with a series link on the Virgin box. I also recorded yesterday's show to catch up at some point today. I have to say Neil your picture was a good effort but I'm afraid you've made a rod for your own back here!! I must now throw out the challenge for you to go back and redo it with the car in the right place, ie a bit further back and taken from a yard or so to the left so the house windows line up!! :-D :-D :-D (oh and you might like to take the right car too, or at least a 1930's Citroen) :rofl2:

Sorry but this is what happens when you get up in the middle of the night and turn on the laptop for the live timing! #-o #-o

The other iconic bit of the introduction is the water splash bit which we failed to find on the day, but now know exactly where it is now. I imagined it was on the road up to Tan Hill but no its here....

Good news for All Creatures Great and Small fans they are filming a new series. Undoubtedly a difficult act to follow but you cant fail really with that sort of scenery in the background.
All Creatures Great and Small adaption cast announced as Yorkshire show shoots this autumn

"An initial series of six episodes plus a Christmas special will be released, and the production will also receive funding and support from Leeds-based Screen Yorkshire.
The casting announcement was made by Channel 5, BAFTA, production company Playground and America's PBS channel MASTERPIECE. MASTERPIECE executive producer Rebecca Eaton said: “This is exactly the right ensemble cast to deliver the warmth, wit and charm of All Creatures Great and Small."

My picture of the day was taken with my eyes as opposed to my camera. A creature both great and small, and bright and beautiful, and a genuine thrill any time you see one. I've had to delve into geograph for a picture because by the time you get the camera out they have gone!

I watched the programme with them in the Morgan last night, it was only a week or so ago we visited the same places, or some of them at least, Skeldale house we looked at (again) we also went up and down Sutton Bank, doesn't half knock your fuel consumption!

We've got a couple of Kingfishers at work which I see occasionally. I don't even try to get my camera phone out as it's not even worth me trying to photograph them
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

A truly beautiful bird and not that common a sight, they are around but tend to hide a lot! Here is a picture of an even rarer Kingfisher:

I have just realised I passed the 600 post point without putting up a celebratory car picture, so slightly late here it is:

No 9 on someone's top 10 Mecedes Benz cars of all time....
https://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/201 ... -time.html
1964 Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman

In 1963, Mercedes introduced an ultimate luxury sedan called the 600, available in short and long wheelbases. And when we say long, we mean stretched limo long. Called the Pullman, the long wheelbase had a fifth and sixth seat installed behind the front row facing rearward.
and number 1 was.......1954-1963 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL

That seems a bit fast.
I had a mate with several bikes including a Panther, a James and an Ariel Square Four.
I used to get a lift to work with him, usually on the Panther. Used to fire approximate every lamp post :)
