Gearbox help please

Post by smiffy01uk »

Hi,
In the process of changing the clutch on a partner 1.6 hdi 90 2014 and need to know how many bolts hold the gearbox.

We have 3 from the starter and 6 others removed but gearbox wont budge. Am i missing a hidden fixing somewhere?

Thanks in advance

"Tiddles, where have you hidden that bolt?"
"Miaow!"
"Don't tell me, show me"
"Miaow"
"If you don't show me where you have hidden that bolt I will have to ask Rover to ask you!"
"Wraow!"
"Rover, ask Tiddles where she has hidden the bolt, will you?"
"Woof"
"Wraow hiss!"
"Woof!"
"I said bolt, not bone, you stupid dog!"
"Grrr!"
"Purr!"
"I give up. The car is going to the garage, and you two are going to the pound!"
"MIAOW!"
"WOOF"
"Bloody hell, I didn't know cats or dogs knew anything about mechanics. Nice job, you two! I am off to the butchers to get some steak for you, Rover, and the fishmongers to get some salmon for you, Tiddles".
"PURRR!"
Lots of wagging tail.

Sorry, smiffy01uk, I know this does not help YOU, but I could not resist!

If you can coax the cat out of the way, you may be able to see the bolt.
Might only be hidden by a whisker . . . :?
__________

On a serious note, if there is any movememt between engine block and gearbox housing with all visible bolts removed, if you try gently teasing the two apart you might be able to detect at which 'corner' the remaining fixing is, by the way it pivots.

Try also rotating the box: if there is no remaining bolt, it should rotate; if it won't, there likely is.

Some manual boxes are reluctant to pull away from their clutches, due to drag and stiffness of the end of primary shaft where it engages in the flywheel and the splines pass through the clutch plate. If stuck, a bit of levering needed, but this should be done straight and equally on a couple of sides.

A few presses of the clutch pedal (if mechanism still connected) can sometimes push the two apart.

Not sure whether you might have a "pull action" clutch, which could require disengaging first, maybe. Someone will be able to confirm.

funny # I seem to recall its a nut that's there you might be able to get a spanner on it and undo it as you pull the box. I know it's still in the spare nut and bolt bucket in the shed it wasn't reused

Well its off and clutch changed.
You were correct that the pesky cat (and my failing eyesight) was indeed hiding the final bolt.

Didint have to remove the cat just the nut on the post that holds it to block to allow enough room to wind the bolt out while sliding gearbox away.

Note for next time. A bowl of whiskas and glasses required
