It's amazing what you come across driving through Hertfordshire these days!!:

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

I used to think I was paranoid, then I realised it was the bloke following me that was.

Just because you are paranoid DOESN'T mean the world ISN'T out to get you! You might be paranoid, but are you paranoid enough?moizeau wrote: 28 Sep 2019, 19:30 I used to think I was paranoid, then I realised it was the bloke following me that was.

Tool Oddities - some answers...
Wire stripper... Grommet/sleeving stretcher... Nut splitter... Old hammer-in tie for cabinet making or roofing, I guess... Old flush woodworking bench stop, adjustable height, for planing... You got close! Actually the proper tool (with an added hex) for winding in Citroen caliper pistons... Spot-on, Neil. I found this old chalk-line years ago in a pile of rubbish on a GWR railway station platform*, undergoing renovation. Oddly, it has my uncle's initials on it.... Originally held brown chalk, but that is pretty useless here, working with terracotta masonry, so now filled with Andalucian standard builders' blue...
*Hanwell & Elthorne More wire-strippers, of complicated design, stamped "BR.URMET". Maybe American?... Now this is anyone's guess. Something my father - something of an inventor, as well as a high-voltage electrical engineer - had tucked away. It has no electrical contacts, but does contain an odd porous-looking 'partition', which does not seem to allow the mercury to pass through. It has a wooden (display?) stand. Use unknown... Another mystery. Might have been a scraper blade holder, or (as suggested) a bender. It is stamped/branded with my grandfather's name, like almost all of his woodworking tools here. He was a master carpenter, but abandoned his London family around 1930, disappearing to California (and later Canada) to make money in oil, and to marry several times more. No divorces were ever recorded. What a heritage!...

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Excellent post Chris contributed to a good day on POTD, and a lot of interest and participation.
So onto today. POTD shouldn’t rest on it’s laurels.
Entries invited. I do have a group of cowardly ducks from yesterday’s dog walk if we draw a blank.
Regards Neil

The punters do like a frivolous drink down at the P E but I don’t think they have tried a jug of Sangria yet

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Just had to delete a post about Miss Shilling's Orifice. I read about her and thought she had worked on the Bloodhound missile but it was Blue Streak.Hell Razor5543 wrote: 28 Sep 2019, 18:29There was another reason Richard Noble chose the name Bloodhound; one of the people who helped with Thrust SSC (and is involved with Bloodhound SSC) is a gentleman called Ron Ayers. Ron had been head of Operational Research at the British Aircraft Corporation (Guided Weapons Division) in Bristol, and was the chief aerodynamicist on the Bloodhound 2 anti-aircraft missile. (Information gleaned from Richard Nobles' book "Thrust").mickthemaverick wrote: 27 Sep 2019, 20:31 A superbly engineered missile, its name was borrowed by Richard Noble for the current World Land Speed record car which is destined to eventually reach 1000mph in South Africa having first set a new record in the region of 800mph. The project ran into financial difficulties after the test runs at Newquay and was bought out by a Yorkshire businessman and is now back on course. I am a founder member of the supporters club and have been involved since 2006. I won't put any pics here but if you are interested you can now find all the details at www.bloodhoundlsr.com. Plenty of good stuff on there especially Andy Green's contributions. If you are not aware Andy holds the current record from Thrust SSC and the entire Bloodhound car has been designed and built to fit and suit him.

One of the mist incredible (to my mind, at least) was the visible shockwave as Thrust SSC went supersonic;
