New C5 owner

Post by NewC5dude »

Hi everyone, was looking to see if anyone can shed some light on this c5 i have just bought. New to French cars, well had a Clio and that was just a little 1.2 that i had for a few months. But got a Citroen C5 VTR HDI+NAV for £1300. Its a 2.0 litre 6 speed gear box 09 model, 112k on the clock. What kinda of common things go wrong on these? Also someone told me it has a turbo?? But i dont think it does. This is the first big car over 1.8 i have had so unsure about the engine used in these. Thanks in advance.

Yes, all C5 X7 HDi engines have a turbo.

Check out the C5 X7 common component failures on the poll here from other owners on the Forum:

It will almost certainly have a turbo.
Post your VIN and someone will look your details up and list what your car left the factory with.

You have the DW10BTED4 138 BHP 2.0 HDi engine - generally very reliable and of course, with Turbo.

Ah thanks so much mate. Now am i right in saying let the engine run a little before turning off to save knackering the turbo?

Yes, always sound advice. Don't rev it, but just allow the turbo time to spin down at tickover before switching off - it allows the oil to continue lubricating the turbo. If you don't, the lubrication cuts off and the turbo continues spinning - and over time this can knacker it.

For normal driving where you haven't put the engine under heavy load and it hasn't been pushed hard, 10-15 seconds is more than adequate. If you have just come off the motorway or been doing some rally driving, then maybe a few minutes to allow the exhaust gases to cool. So no one answer - just use some common sense based on your own driving habits.
