That was a popular size on the light commercial vehicles at the time, A40 Devon vans/pick ups e.g. the saloons had 5.50-16s, some of the Fords had 17" but they were thinner 4.50-17.

It's not one of those Neil. I think you will just have to go back and lift that tarpaulin. :)

You're right there Gibbo, definitely not a Lea Francis, that bonnet line is more Jeep like to me, but it also looks a bit like some of the kit car buggys you see around, too old for a kit car tho I guess. How about one of the early flat bonneted imp/chamois range?

You are going to have a few scratching their heads with that one Van, unless they are a good googler. Only 1,013 built and none at all for the manufacturer shown on the "How Many Left?" site for the UK.

When I first saw it I thought it looked a bit SAAB'-ey, which was a fair call reading the wiki page on the model.

Here's another pic which doesnt give anything away for others wishing to join in.

I haven't looked or Googled, it looks like the result of a collision between a Saab and a Volvo so a Volsab or a Sabvol :-D

Wearing early Sierra wheel trims just to confuse things further.

Tail light lenses are also used on the late 70s/early 80s Caetano Alpha coach (or at least visibly very similar)...which suggests there's a degree of parts bin raiding going on...

There are bits which look familiar...but I've not the foggiest what it is...

Almost has an Eastern Bloc vibe in some ways (door handles look identical to those used by Moscovich to name one)...but I think that's a false lead and I'm instead going with my gut and pointing instead at Japan. Going to say Toyota...but that's with a large amount of guesswork.
Current fleet:
06 Peugeot Partner Escapade 1.6HDi, 88 Renault 25 Monaco, 85 Sinclair C5, 84 Trabant 601S, 75 Rover 3500, 73 AC Model 70.
