Fuel Injectors

Post by davscer »

Hi, I am having issues with my car and i think i found the problem. It is difficult to start when the engine is cold, greyish / black exhaust fumes and sluggish at times. I feel car hesitating too from 1300rpm to 2000 rpm. I blanked the EGR and still I am having problems. I bet its the Injectors as I have spoken to several mechanics about this issue. We dont have good fuel quality here. My question is, is it a hard job to replace and since I have the Delphi Pump, what injectors do I need? If possible with their part number. Any help would be appreciated. Its a 2008 407 Coupe 2.0 HDi RHR engine.

Malta once had a fine reputation for being able to keep its vehicles on the road, more-or-less for ever! :P
Could you not get your injectors serviced/recalibrated? - something most diesel specialists should be able to do - and much cheaper than a new set.

If fuel is poor quality, try a regular dose of either Wynn's diesel fuel treatment, or Miller's Diesel Power Plus. Both improve the way the fuel burns, and will clean and lubricate the injector system.

So from the symptoms which i am experiencing, the injectors would need a clean? I will try and find these additives before sending them to a specialist. Thanks.

Despite what you may think - blanking the EGR is not a good idea and not something we condone on the Forum. Doing this will lead to engine fault codes as the engine ECU relies on it. Best advice it to clean or replace it and don't blank it.

P1471 relates directly to the EGR throttle housing electrovalve valve being open. This will lead to lack of power. jerking and stalling.

Update, I have solved the long starting issue. I bought a set (4) second hand Delphi Injectors from the UK. Swapped them, coded them and it starts after 1 turn. It’s More powerful, runs better, economical, the car transformed itself to the better.

Although, it still smokes under hard acceleration (which is all the time)

I am still getting the P1471. I changed the Electrovalve near the AC compressor and the hesitation decreased to almost none! Found out it had the incorrect electrovalve.

The air doser seems to hold vacuum. I tested it by connect a pipe to the air doser, sucked air with my mouth and the flap didn’t move.

I ordered a Delphi EGR to replace. Fingered that it will be solved.

The EGR needs to be calibrated with Diagbox?

This is not mentioned anywhere. The system self-checks anyway on startup. Just make sure that you follow the procedure for BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure before starting replacement (but in this case, wait 15 minutes before disconnection of battery to allow full memorisation of ECU data) and then follow the reconnection part when reconnecting the battery after.

Thanks for your reply. I thought that the new EGR would need to calibrate through Diagbox. I have read on several forums that it would need calibration. Correct me if I am wrong.

Normally it is mentioned if it requires programming, but there is no official mention of having to do this. (The other poster was getting a 'Programming Not Complete' error anyway....)

Hi Marc, the EGR was replaced with an original Delphi. EGR Cooler was cleaned too. The old EGR seemed to open and close the valve well when I operated it manually. Anyways, fitted in the new EGR, programming with no errors. During the programming, Diagbox tells you to switch off ignition and switch on.

The car is performing much better at low rpms and its pulling well. There is still a slight hesitation on 4th gear under full load (pedal to the metal). I guess maybe the ECU still needs to learn or calibrate. Correct me if I am wrong. It smoked for a few miles after replacing and after the regen it doesnt make smoke anymore... hope it stays like this.

Thanks for the update - it may take a while for the engine management to adjust to the new readings and that extra bit of smoke may be some crud that was dislodged during the removal / fitting process.

Re: Fuel Injectors

Hi again,

To make sure that everything is right, I checked my electro valve near the AC compressor and it’s part number is 1618S4. I checked on service box with my chassis number and it shows that part number with QTY 2. I have only one electro valve near the AC compressor and it’s a single air doser. I checked on an Asian catalogue and it’s right, with the 1618S4. Then checked another link and it says 1618S5 and QTY is 1.

Which one is it? It’s a 2008 2.0 HDi RHR. VIN number VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].

Thanks.
