OBD2 Diagnostic Code Reader

Post by Doo »

Some of you will already know I am having hilarity with our 2007 C4 1.6hdi SX.

The BSM may or may not be at fault, but the two code readers I have used will not communicate with the ABS.

So, I am looking at buying a PSA friendly code reader.

This one appears to tick the boxes https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OBD2-PP2000- ... 2706145855

Can anyone confirm or deny it's plausibility ??

And are there any downsides to it?

Thanks all

At that price I would be concerned. Normally a full chipset Rev C kit starts at around £70, and they can go higher. Easy Diagnostics charge around £140 for their product, but that also comes with a year aftercare service (including remote setup if needed).

Nope - forget it. Too cheap and very likely inferior. It won't be a full chip kit for that price and he has a cop out clause (where he refers to fitment chart not being 100% accurate  )

If you want a decent one you should be looking to be paying around the £100 mark. You will need a laptop with ideally a 32 bit operating system like Win 7 to run it.

There is a discount for members here. We are not affiliated, but many members have purchased kits from them (including myself) and they are a UK supplier with backup support. Other suppliers are also available.

That was my thought, hence the question. But wife doesn't like to spend money on "unnecessary" stuff  Yet she wants to run this car into the ground!

Before this the car was a perfect example of reliability... I'll speak to her tomorrow and see if she thinks it is a viable option.

I have two laptops that could do the job. One Win7 (brilliant) and one Win 10 (hateful thing :gt: :argue: ](*,) ).

I use a Mac, but unfortunately it's not portable, but oh so reliable =D>

So with the 15% discount, what price are we looking at from this chap?

Thanks again to all for all the help, and so quickly! Another forum I am on is somewhat slow.... I've seen more life in an old folks home at 4am :-D

If you're going to easydiagnostics you might have to wait a while, he had a note on the site saying he's away on holiday.

The link to the website is in the procedure for the discount (in my last post). Prices are as per their website and will no doubt fluctuate.

A MAC is unsurprisingly not compatible with Diagbox in any case. I would strongly suggest you use a dedicated laptop for diagnostics - the installation is very untidy - it creates files all over the place and if you have issues with installation - *also very common), you will need to start editing the registry and removing directories manually due to the way it is designed. This can mean reinstalling the OS in some cases - so not recommended if you use it with other programmes or have other files you want to keep on it.

I would most likely use the Win 7 as it has been formatted and has plenty space. It will only be used for diagnostics (EAS Software for my RR too).

I have to wait for her indoors to "discuss" it when she gets home from work #-o

Ok, that should be fine. Be warned that there is no official support, as these are clones of official tools not for general public use.... but there are resources and help from other members.

Fully recommend EasyDiagnostics and if you add up 2 diag sessions at a garage you will have paid less for your kit, so already saving after you use it twice, and i am sure the good lady will be favourable to spending money to actually save it in the long run and it helps keep the car running, win win :)

That is my plan, to save money (even though you can't take it with you when you pass over....) and I think she is beginning to see this so here's hoping we are able to buy a code reader thingy when the provider is back from his break (sounding awfully like a Star Trek Discovery episode  ).

Await the advice 8-)

Still love this forum =D> :taz: \:D/

Plus, if you have friends with Citroens or Peugeots, you can help them out as and when needed (and maybe get a few beer/wine tokens for doing so!).

That is exactly how I am selling to my wife

I suggested that when she gets a new Citroen (or Peugeot...) we'll have the tool and would only need some updates which will be cheap.

However, I am on the EasyDiagnostics website just now and they have a new toy called the iAuto 702Pro which looks awesome, but will it speak with the froggie stuff or would it.... :argue: :-D

I'd rather have something that'll do multiple cars or multiple tasks in mult...you get the drift.

I'm off to remove the other BSM and send it back for a refund and put that towards whatever code reader we will be buying.

Can't wait, all excited now :taz:
