cruise control

Hi all,

I have a xsara picasso 2.0 HDi and i have recently installed the cruise control stalk, and activated the setting for cruise in the injection menu of lexia.....however upon testing it i am unable to get the cruise control to work, i checked the operation of the brake and clutch switch in lexia and they seem to function fine, However i do i have a "Remote fault, permanent fault brake switch signal communications fault" code stored which leads me to believe my brake switch is not functioning correctly?

Any tips on how i can get this to work?

How old is the Picasso? On the C5 there is a redundant brake pedal switch required for the cruise control to work (this is a Push to Break type of switch) that disconnects the cruise control when the pedal is pressed. If this switch is missing the cruise control cannot work. I cannot remember where, but it is possible (in the Lexia menus) to see the state of the clutch, main and redundant brake pedal switches.

The reason I asked about the age is that on the early C5 Mk1 there were two brake pedal switches needed (one in white, Push to Make, for the brake lights, and the other in red, Push to Break, for the cruise control), and often, on C5s without the cruise control, the red switch was not fitted (although it could be bought and fitted at a later date). Later C5s (still the Mk1) had both switches in a single housing.

I cannot say if this is the case with the Picasso, but it could be that they followed the same simple design.

it's a 2005 so has the comms2000 module with the radio stalk, ah! there was only 1 brake pedal switch in lexia, i will take a look tomorrow at the switches.
is there a certain kind i need to get if i need another switch? I imagine there is a space next to the current switch for it?

I cannot say if the Picasso follows the same configuration as the C5 Mk1, but if it does you will need to get the red switch and collar (I believe they came together). This switch (on the C5) fitted next to the white switch, and a red plug then needs to be connected (the loom should already have this plug). However, before spending any money might I suggest you wait until somebody with a lot more knowledge of the Picasso sees this thread and updates it? While the Citroens shared a lot of parts between them, this does not mean they always did things the same way.

I have just been out to check and i have 1 white brake switch with 4 wires on a connector entering it.......i had heard that the 4 wire ones are a dual function?

That is the dual function switch then.

Thats what i was thinking,
however i do have this fault on lexia......

Go into live data & see if the ECU can see both brake switch circuits working.

I can only see 1 circuit showing the pedal being depressed and released

little update,
so the car can see the stalk being turned on and off, the fault code for the brake switch has dissapeared however still no cruise.
I suspect it's not enabled somewhere but i have looked everywhere that it could be.

Any lexia experts out there know where else it needs to be enabled

Where have you enabled it? You may need to do it in the BSI and the engine ECU. And in some places it might be referred to as BVV or something equally random (probably not in French!).

I have enabled it in the injection ECU menu, i could not find it in the BSI. i'm going to have a good play around with it tomorrow.
It does feel like a programming error rather than a physical problem, however i have ordered a new brake switch anyway as i did have a fault code and they are cheap to replace.
