Re: Unusual/Interesting Engines
Very interesting engine in the mini which parked next to me today, sorry the pictures are full of reflections but hopefully you'll get the gist. Any suggestions?:

Looks a bit steampunk from what I can make out.
If you are using an SLR camera rather then a phone, a polaroid filter will all bu eliminate those reflections.

Re: Unusual/Interesting Engines
I had my twin SLR's (Canon AE1's) stolen in a break in when I was living in Luton, no surprise there, and I chose a digital Canon Proshot 90 IS as a replacement from the insurance about 20 years ago. It is now living in the wardrobe due to dead batteries so I'm afraid it's the phone for me now.
As for the engine I can confirm it is a Japanese 4 cylinder 1430cc (bored out from 1300) motorcycle engine which revs at 11000 rpm and warrants the driver wearing ear protectors. It develops around 233bhp and drives the rear wheels via sequential gearbox, 1 up 5 down, and chain drive. The hardware comes from a Suzuki Hayabusa and took 3 years to build!!
The exhaust exits through the bootlid:

Poor old Mini
Rear lights may be more recent than the body...
Can someone look up that registration number, just out of interest?

1962 - a really old one - just 3 years into production.
Thanks for the search, Steve.

Re: Unusual/Interesting Engines
returning slightly to the Mini post, saw a pair of 'Twini's' at Goodwood this weekend. Something I'd no previous idea of (Engines Front and Rear like the 2CV Sahara). Photos are awful and the Green car (not pictured) had a much smaller exhaust system, but you can probably find better ones online.

Re: Unusual/Interesting Engines
Back in 1912 us Brits were quite innovative in the motorcycle world. Four cylinder motorbiking, some time before Honda launched the CB750 in 1968.

Re: Unusual/Interesting Engines
I remember seeing a twin-engined Mini Moke in the BMIHT collection at Gaydon.
Briefly promoted for military use, it had a pretty much standard Mini engine at each end.
There were two gear levers, joined together with some very Heath Robinson linkages.

Oddly enough I read recently that Harley Davidson was originally British.white exec wrote: ↑11 Oct 2018, 20:41 What a lovely sound that Ariel Four Square makes - almost a V8 burble!

Re: Unusual/Interesting Engines
About the two engines, front and rear, I remember reading about VW making a Scirocco prototype like this, with more power than the rally Quattro.
Just found an article https://www.vwheritage.com/blog/2015/04 ... cons-past/
But for the greatest digression, I've just been watching a documentary on BBC4 about Rolls-Royce Trent jet engines.
