01 Xsara Picasso

Unread post by oscar »

Hi had the died/dead situation other morning typical on my way back from fishing so in middle of no where(Lee on solent)Had been ok then went back to it opened door radio screen lit put key in "Blanko" every thing off few words of wisdom uttered! thought shift seat to check terminals but time of day couldn't remember how to flip seat?
Went back round it came back to life! Strange one is Radio(Blaupunkt) lost 3 mins but not key card code unless takes longer for it to loose it?
Had to reset dash rubbish i did have dash reset before while back also when got in it one day.

Friend Who works on These sort of things at Royal Fail/Parcel Farce said battery lead where sits in the box/bracket above gearbox/bellhousing?

Anyone else had issues?

The radios are VIN coded - there's no code to enter when the battery is disconnected. That was back in the 80s :-D

Maybe if it's Factory thing but as it say's Blaupunkt which has a SD card theft thing so if with out power/removed have to insert MSD it reads then remove

Ok, that's different without the factory fitted head unit, and further, replacing the head unit with an aftermarket one can also cause issues...

What sort of issues?
It's been in car 6 years now! and was in one before.
Think your missing point/issue there was NO power to anything NIL/Nadda Horn/lights inside and radio screen which comes on when open door for a minute if don't turn ignition on.
Dashboard Di dead then came back to life after a while.

I'd be surprised if anyone could understand a word of your first post considering you've not mentioned anything specifically that isn't working. Dash and Blaupunkt is all I got from that, so don't knock it.

The Radios can have an impact on the vehicle electrics if not fitted correctly - probably not so much on your early model but certainly on the later ones.
As for the dash lights and power issues - I've had a look and you don't have a BSI just the earlier ANC Control box, and you don't have a Comms 2000 unit under the steering which can be a known cause for sudden power failures.

So I'd start with the battery itself first (how old is it / condition) then battery terminals, engine fusebox connections and then the control unit under the dash.

Battery is fine not that old anyway as started after five minutes it was just everything was dead what i am going to do once remember how to do? is get seat up and check clutch monkeys did terminals up properly.
Friend that works on PSA was saying about where plus lead comes up to block unit above gearbox/right of thermostat housing plastic thing with + cover over it two parts must come together there as two nuts in there it's for jump starting etc being as battery is under seat or think powering to if have battery out/flat so can lock doors as i had to do when took it off to charge

He was saying they can fracture there with rocking back n forth of engine

Well sorted it!!!
Under bonnet on right side is plastic box/cover that lead from battery is connected to other part via a connector one side wasn't tight pretty loose in end something "Clutch" Monkeys must have undone when changing clutch as can't have/didn't undo that many turns
