A mere 8 Million views on youtube, and he gets to 41 on radio 2's motown top 100!

Someone asking about "Unknown" musical instruments. Daft question as if they were unknown we wouldn't know about them.
The one I knew nothing about until a couple of years ago was a Lyra, which at the time I supposed was a misspelled Lyre.
Not so.
Georgia Dagaki with her Lyra.

Always liked that, the irony being that there was no Hurdy Gurdy in it :)

On the ancient and unusual instruments, this always pleases me.

First Aid Kit with Johanna on autoharp.

On kids TV in the fifties there was a girl playing one (zither) called Shirley Abicair.

She's Australian. An odd coincidence was that my cousin Joyce, who lived next door was engaged to an ambulance driver called William Winspear. At the time, Shirley Abicair and others sang a song called Willie Can - which is one one of the records shown.
William was therefore always called Willie Can - It was years before I found his name was Winspear - not until they were married.
They live in Australia now :)

They had moved out of town so rarely saw them and discovered years later that Joyce worked in a health centre - opposite the painter's and decorators where I worked and where we often were in to repaint. Had no idea.

Here's a local lad, former high level ranter Alistair Anderson getting up close and personal with his concertina and Kate Bush at the start of this interesting version of Rocket Man. I am not quite in the "Kate Bush can do no wrong" category, but I'm very close to it. :-D Didn't quite get it on first hearing but I like it now!

Hadn't heard of him but he immediately made me think of Kathryn Tickell, a local girl.
I used to see her in her blue Volvo 245 trundling around Jesmond when I worked ther - I think she must have lived there at the time.

Well at last I have access but sadly no great knowledge of how to get a track linked to here. So I had a browse through the most recent 40 odd pages of the Jukebox and I was surprised to find that my favourite track of all has not made an appearance, though it may be on before, so can I ask someone (That'll be Neil then :) ) to put it up for me on maybe a theme of one hit wonders or something? Procol Harum and Whiter Shade of Pale. :-D :-D
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

I was showing my youngest grandson some slides taken in the seventies, he had no idea what they were when he found some on a bookshelf so dragged the projector out and looked through about a thousand of the and he was fascinated.
There was one taken near my parents-in-laws house with an air raid siren on a pole, bright red against a thundercloud heavy sky.

Like so many other things he had no inkling of what that could be.

Much sadness as many photo's of my then very young and pretty wife, sad as she departed this world four years ago.

I have access to both the hand cranked Secomak siren and a three phase electric siren. I still find it a haunting noise. They are both ridiculously noisy when used in enclosed spaces. I said..... THEY ARE BOTH RIDICULOUSLY NOISY WHEN USED IN ENCLOSED SPACES :-D
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(
