I wouldn't be surprised if the "law" was as clear as mud. I read this, but make no claim as to whether its correct or not.
https://www.confused.com/on-the-road/dr ... for-idling
"Stationary idling is an offence under section 42 of the Road Traffic Act 1988," says Jeanette Miller, managing director of Geoffrey Miller Solicitors.

The Act enforces rule 123 of the Highway Code, which states: "You must not leave a vehicle’s engine running unnecessarily while that vehicle is stationary on a public road."

It's always been illegal even when I started driving back in 1954 and probably right from the start of motoring law when you needed a flag man. :)

There were hefty fines for leaving a diesel idling for more than three minutes in Sweden - over forty years ago.

Since I replaced Google with Duckduckgo as search engine (https://start.duckduckgo.com/) on all my devices I have had a significantly reduced level of SPAM. It does mean you have to type all searches in but it guarantees no tracking or privacy invasion, and hence less ads!! I am slowly removing all google related items too but there are some things that I need so I run those on a dedicated old laptop!! 8-)
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

I used to use DDG but started to dislike it after a while - it is still available on the search engine list but not used.
I do have Ixquick which is similar, and Lycos, only because my daughter knows the sister of the bloke who started it.
Used to use Dogpile years ago, similar to DDG.

When I install a new OS version it always defaults to Yahoo! Dreadful.
First job is to bin it and install Google.

I have minimal spam, usually one a month on Gmail and half a dozen on my BT Yahoo account. Similar on the three other email accounts.

For the über paranoid amongst us, use something like TOR (The Onion Ring). It's portable and can be run from a USB as and when needed.

The only person I ever email is James Hellrazor and that's only because he doesn't have WhatsApp!

I'm a late adopter of WhatsApp - and only then because my friends keep switching mobiles from Apple to Android and back again - so can't rely on iMessage. Like anything I lock down the privacy options and do not / will not ever have Facebook (although I appreciate WhatsApp is part of the Zuckerberg empire).

This latest big brother episode of facial recognition data collection is totally unacceptable IMO. As far as I can make out, the Investigatory Powers Tribunal does not permit mass surveillance in the UK, so I'm pleased they've been shopped on that one for now.

I think WhatsApp is safe enough, from what I can work out. Facebook I use simply because everyone else uses it and it is useful for sharing pics with family abroad (and I've loads!) rather than build my own website and try to get them to see it.

There's also the fact all my SMS messages are held for an indeterminate amount of time and can be seen by more worrying folk than Zuckerberg and his cronies should they wish... So, WhatsApp causes me no concerns.

Dogpile used to be the dog's ******** but seems to have been overtaken, used to use BigYellowTaxi - but think it crashed.

Also have Epic - but search function's not up to much.

Love to get shot of Google, for which I have no time - or use - but it's so invidious it protects itself from being uninstalled, now THAT is scary!

That's strange.
When I install new upgrades of Linux Mint, Google is not included, it defaults to Yahoo! but DDG, Ixquick,
Wikipedia, Chambers and a couple of others are included but I have to actively install Google myself.
Just had to do it on three computers with Mint Tina.

Yes, that might well be so - but have you tried uninstalling it?

No, I have no problems with it, although a few days ago while doing a bit of research on Heather Mills acquisition of the former Proctor and Gamble factory in Seaton Delaval, I found that an entry had been added to my Google Calender for the Keel Row pub there after I copied and posted an entry to my daughter who works in Seaton Delaval.
The Keel Row entry then appeared in her calender.

As an example.........if you want to block cookies do you

do you choose "Yes" to allow or "Yes" to block
or "No" to block" or "No" to allow

Maybe its obvious, but I find it confusing.
