Well done chaps. Maybe I was a bit harsh calling it a one-spanner (a la Haynes) degree of dificulty for the over 50's. I would have had to look it up myself, although ERF's and Fodens used to regularly use the hill at the end of the street to wind their way up to the cement works up weardale and the roadstone quarry near Consett.

Always liked the cabs of those lorries, nice expressive faces.

The reason I REMEMBERED it is because the bloke across the road from me was a coalman and he drove an ERF truck! He spent the best part of my school lunch hour boring me and my mate with the wonders of his lorry!!

Now had any of us lived around Ipswich way we may have had our coal delivered ironically by an Electric Morrison 3 ton Coal Truck from the Ipswich Co-op. (1982 Pic)

Never noticed that Gibbo well spotted, I'll shove a direct link on the "notices what have you spotted thread".

That Ipswich Coop stuff is nothing short of an absolute gem. Few Smiths Electric Vehicles amongst them, and obviously years ahead of their time, and doing an excellent service serving that community.

..and this is what I find out about Smiths.... :(
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smith_Electric_Vehicles
Smith Electric Vehicles (also known as Smith's) was a manufacturer of electric trucks. The company, founded in 1920 in the north of England, moved its headquarters to Kansas City, Missouri in 2011. In 2015, Smith idled its manufacturing and it ceased all operations in 2017.
What went wrong, we need 100 Smiths now!

There was a Smiths near me, it used to be an LG factory. Now half of it is Snorkel, owned by Smiths, can't remember what the other half is.
Also, on Team Valley, again not far from me is SEVCON - spun off from Smiths when they were in the valley.

Coming across an old photo of a Ford Anglia 100E, our first car, did a little digging around to find out a bit more about them. Terrible Vacuum Operated Wipers apparently!

Came across this on the 100E Owners Club, and this gallery of the 100E, badged as an Escort, and used by the AA. Nice set of little seen nostalgic pics of the AA 100E Escorts in action on this gallery from the site.

My mate's Dad had a 100E Prefect in yuk green and the wipers were terrible, the faster you drove the slower they wiped, which of course makes sense as the vacuum decreases with increased throttle! Bloody dangerous tho!! :)

I thought that by the time Ford had got to the 100E they had a vacuum reservoir fitted.

The Zephyrs had a double diaphragm petrol pump one for the petrol and the other for the wipers.

Quite a lot of differences from the UK version Neil, in the UK no ally head, no auxiliary fuel tank, no huge fan, no whitewalls, no two speed on the wipers.

The three speed gearbox wasn't good ratio wise, screaming in second the a huge jump into third, so a lot of gear changing on hilly roads.

They put an ohv engine and four speed box in it later.
