Xantia - water drip, passenger footwell

Post by Jaf »

Hello. A small drip started today in the passenger footwell. I licked it, so I’m fairly sure it’s clean water. My antifreeze is pink, sweet and so I don’t think it’s the heater matrix. In the piccy you can see a big ball of black sealant, that’s been there for 12 years since before I bought Fred. That’s the bit leaking.

I’m wondering if it’s the air drain? Or a windscreen drain? It hasn’t rained for ages but I do rinse the windscreen every few days (no sunroof). If so I can safely seal it up again!

Thanks

No pic there, re-sealing windscreens is a bit hit and miss as they are bonded on the bit you can't see. If the bonding isn't good any silicon injected down the flappy bit is a bit 'sort it short term'.

Oops! Added piccy now. Ball of sealant is definitely attached to the footwell, though not sure if that’s the drain.

On a Xantia, the scuttle trim needs to be sealed to the windscreen, at least in the area of the A/C air intake, or water running off the screen goes straight through the fan and falls out the bottom.

This will be it. Mine was bad, and once the scuttle was rebonded that fixed it completely.

I cheekily (I thought) rang Autoglass to see if they'd advise me what to use, as I'm almost a frequent customer (4). They said lifetime warranty, looked it up, came and did it for free.

Ah ok thanks. Will stop washing the windscreen! At least till it’s cooler...and can look at it properly.

Does anyone know what the ball of sealant is covering?
