Yes well done, and another one to add to the tartan seat club, should conversation lull at a social occasion.

Its a Mark II.

"In keeping with tradition, Giorgetto Giugiaro and ItalDesign were given the opportunity to shape the Mk II, but the firm’s proposal was discounted for being too close to the car’s original design, and even a bit bland. Ultimately, the design proposal from Volkswagen’s own Wolfsburg styling studio, led by Herbert Schafer, won out"

That Scirocco is thirty years old Van. If it had been in my ownership for that time, as well as the in car picnics of the family, and three different dogs, the understated pale tartan fabric would have well-disappeared in accumulated detritus, stains and spillages :-D . Black leather is much better for wiping stuff off!

Just an aside and a bit of trivia....didn't realise Passat is also a wind related name. A german term for the Trade Winds (according to wiki)

And... wait for it, wait for it..... a Bora is also a type of wind. Who'd have thunk it, eh ? :-D
And in Germany the 'Jetta' is the name for a jetstream. I can see a theme emerging here...... just can't quite work out what it is :rofl2:

And then there's the VW Santana (Santa Ana) The Santa Ana winds of course feature in Babylon Sisters by Steely Dan

"Babylon sisters shake it
Babylon sisters shake it
So fine, so young
Tell me I'm the only one
Here come those Santa Ana winds again"

Always a joy trying to decipher Steely Dan Lyrics.

For a bit of useless trivia to store part of San Francisco is aka "Babylon" but there may be deeper meanings as per the use of the word in Reggae music. Reasonably certain the song ain't about the Hanging Gardens!
Your last post on the PE Jukebox Winds Special was from Deacon Blue who took their name from this little snippet of Steely Dan.

"They call Alabama the Crimson Tide, call me Deacon Blues"

Just surprised that Maserati let them get away with it.

Neil, think we may be at cross purposes, 'cos I can't see what the age of the car has to do with the relative practicality of its upholstery. f-w-i-w, many cars with white leather are probably twice that age.

I suspect that brown vinyl beats black leather in the wipeability stakes (unless its in a P6 Rover!) BUT, the reason why public transport upholstery is multi-coloured random patterns is because that disguised stains best (might explain a lot of French interiors too.

Just admitting that If I had had that car for the last 30 years the upholstery wouldn't have remained that pristine (well it looks that way in the photos!).

Still I have an old Corsa which I have recently been transporting cement sand and gravel in. Decided to get the back seat out and give them a good clean, and dry out in the sun and they have come up like new much to my surprise!

I really should have got that but there's been so many, here's one I did earlier, not a good photo I'm afraid. The only Scirroco I ever bought and sold.

Good use for a Corsa, as is filling in depleted gravel pits - or reinforcing concrete.

Whatsthisthen?..USA double header

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

My knowledge of american cars is minimal, but I saw a pair of them in the Northumberland backwater of Allendale today.

So have a go at these, the white one from a distance I thought was a Rover from the front end.

Number One
USA No 1-(White)-Whatsthisthen?
USA No 1-(White)-Whatsthisthen?
Number Two
USA No 2 (Blue)-Whatsthisthen?
USA No 2 (Blue)-Whatsthisthen?
More clues/pics to follow if too difficult :-D

Absolutely correct. No badging on the vehicle of Toronado. The blurb on the trofeo follows on from the Fourth Generation oldsmoblie toronado on the wiki page...https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldsmobil ... E2.80.9392
