C8, AC compressor clutch relay, location?

Unread post by Chuit »

Hi!
I'm in the process of troubleshooting the AC system on my C8. I have sufficient gas pressure, but the compressor clutch does not kick in. I have probed the wires going to the compressor clutch, and there is no power to it. So, there seems to be an electrial fault somewhere. Could be the pressure sensor also I suppose, or even the electronic control unit for the climate control. My next step however is to test the function of the relay for the compressor clutch, but I have no idea where it's located. Could somebody guide me to it, please?

And by the way, Would anyone know if AC faults will show up on a lexia/diagbox scan?

The A/C compressor will shut down if there is low gas from a leak (which you've checked) or if the vehicle temperature is too high, or it could even be a fuse.

Post up your VIN and I'll advise of the fuse. There are actuator tests you can perform on the heating controls (certainly for the digital climate systems) and some of these have an A/C ECU, but each system is different.

VIN: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

What about the relay that controls the compressor clutch, would you know where that is located too? Or is it built into the AC control unit?

From what I can see It's Maxi Fuse 08 (50 Amp) that controls the A/C compressor - in the under engine fuse box (BM34). This also looks like where the relays are - integrated into the fuse box.

Thanks for posting the schematics so quickly! The problem is solved now. After checking that the fuses were ok, I decided to take a step back and have another look at the compressor clutch instead. (I was unable to locate the relay, seems it might be on a circuit board that's hidden inside the fuse box?) I unplugged the compressor clutch/coil and fed 12v directly to the clutch/coil and the compressor immediately started spinning and cooling. Had a closer look at the wiring connector, and discovered that one of the terminals was pulled half way out of the plug. This is of course why I got no voltage when probing the plug earlier... After putting the terminal properly back into the connector everything works just fine...
