Did you see that Kiruna is being moved - the whole town dismantled and shifted a few kilometres because of the mine workings?

It was mentioned on the program. It should be easy to move the wooden buildings (there was footage of a shop being moved), but others cannot, and will have to be demolished.

Apparently there are over 400KM of tunnels, roadways and (unusually) railways down in the mine. Since it went into operation (1902) over 1 billion tonnes of iron ore hade been extracted by the time the program was filmed.

In the space of about 5 minutes today, a Zoe being driven, a Leaf parked up, and - in a shock development - an Outlander actually being charged in a public charging space. I thought the charging sockets on those Outlanders were only for show purposes :-D
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

Electric Vehicles: What have you spotted?

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

This is a 19 reg e-golf. Now I wonder if its a demonstrator on a shopping trip from the showroom, or whether someone has gone and ordered a grey one, and decided to have a hideous bit of advertising plastered down the side, possibly for some financial reward/discount. People advertise on your wheelie bins/roundabouts/ even milkbottles so advertising on cars may become more de rigueur.

Without the advert down the side its going to blend in pretty well, and be quite a difficult on the road spot. Its an unusual enough spot for 50 points for the next original pic of one on the thread.

Now what makes me think of Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway right at this moment?

Pop over the Pickled Egg to find out.

Rivian SUV and Truck
Our son's wife is now working for Rivian, heading up their driver safety operation.

The technical spec and design of the vehicle platform does look impressive, but I always hold my breath on American engineering (Boeing, batteries...).

16 minutes, and some good technical detail, but worth staying with, despite the presenters...

So who makes this little bit of "plein air" fun, shift that stuff out the back and we could even take the hound for a summer drive! Wonder if it comes in yellow?

Link from the above article took me to Swind. What they do is electrify pre-2001 classic minis.

There is plenty of small print to avoid any confilct with Bayerische Motoren Werke AG who own the trademark Mini® name.

Similar to conversions I have come across of classic vehicles like MGB's the price for these specialist professional conversions can be eyewateringly high, make your own mind up!

Spotted a trio of BMW I3's recently, two at their natural homes...Waitrose and M&S car parks respectively and one came up from behind and passed me while I was walking the dog....not with any sort of false ICE mimicing noise..but a discernable if gentle whoosh.

..Now the only BMW I3's I have ever spotted have been white .

I think we can offer bonus points for an original sighting/picture of a red one.

I've mentioned these electric Minis (there's a firm in Finland doing them), "B's" & Mokes before, someone's converting Alpines now but, nearer home (as it were) there were 2 v. different electric 2CV's (+ a Mahari) at the French 100th but the one that particularly attracted my interest was the one that seemed to have dispensed with the gearbox as well, so there was hardly anything under the bonnet, except a beautifully polished ally motor(?) E-W between the wheels.

The least dismal of the Zoe's Steve and 50 points for me for an unusual spot.

The Aconite. The little word on the side is Bose....may have a decent stereo!
