On some vehicles the breather hole is in the cap, while on others it is a seperate pipe (that normally is near to the filler cap).

Not sure about your van, but I know the fuel cap plays an important role in the fuel systems of late model diesels. And I’ve heard of running problems if the cap is faulty. You really need to get Lexia on it. If you look in the sticky section of this forum you’ll see a list of members who have Lexia, try sending them a personal message. It’ll work out cheaper in the end and you know it’s fixed then.

Does this engine have the double butterfly throttle body housing ?
Just an idle thought my old C5 X7 ( 1.6 hdi ) was showing signs of a flat spot/ misfire before it finally went into kangaroo mode.
Not sure if it would have thrown up a fault code because i never had it checked until it had well and truly failed.

I am trying to eliminate one thing at a time and as I try it seems to throw up other possible cures. I know I have said this before, but thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread, much appreciated. Rest assured I will get to the bottom of the issue and boy wont it be quiet when I do :rofl2:

Just an update: We have been out a couple more times in the van for longish runs, usually down to Southsea or similar and we are still carrying a small misfire, but I am now at a point where I really don't care. We have decided to try the van one more time going on holiday from the 5th July and if it fails in any way then it will become someone else's problem. We plan to tour the west coast of Wales (why I hear you say  ) over a nine day period and that will be the decider. SWMBO'd keeps on about not having confidence and with this existing fault the thing could break down at at any time, and a man can only put up with so much marital persuasion :rofl2: . I will keep banging in the cleaner and running the van regularly and hopefully see continued small improvement. I am off to the Festival of Speed next friday so that will be a precursory run before the Wales run. Here's to happy HollieBollies..............

Because you can't tour the east coast of Wales?

So, the camper got us too and back from Wales, a journey of 598 miles and I could count the number of misfires/coughs on one hand. The fact that it is still misfiring is a concern but I am past worrying about it and have decided to just get on and enjoy it and if it breaks down, that's why I pay a subscription to the RAC. I have bought one of those gadgets that can read codes and resets a vehicle from limp mode, so time to get on and stop worrying. Maybe as we use it more and put more cleaner through the system it might just right itself. Many Thanks Gary
