Nice to see the "Car Coat" in the gallery, and that motorway cap!
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 07 Jun 2016, 20:43 In the early days of motoring, specific car attire was necessary due to the exposure to the elements in many models, but in the 1970's the car coat made a bit of a revival. I would class this example being sported by Bob as being a "Car Coat".

Its the collar for me that does it, although I would have preferred a Brushed Nylon static electricity generator main fabric, rather than the actual or fake leather look, for the archetypal 70's car coat for me.

That cap must have been for very posh people, I'm, sure you could get one cheaper than that now!

I remember the kettle but not the frying pan. If that was in the days of the 19 amp max output dynamo I fails to see how it wouldn't rune the battery down - unless it was a very s-l-o-w cooker.

That's the stuff that electrocutes you when you slide out of the seat and grab the outside door handle!

The Tartan Travel Rug is still alive and kicking. The host of Armstrong Sidderley's I came across had a fair crop of the tartan travel rug covering the rear seats. Difficult with reflections to get a decent pic of the varying tartans used. I reckon rather than a useless decorative item they were using the rugs to protect the leather seating.

How? When? Why? Chris!

A little bit of me hopes that this little thread may have some minor influence over the purchase decision...or is it a rite of passage age-related thing? (tongue in cheek emoticon..no offense intended! :-D )

From Spean Bridge Woollen Mill, in Oct-Nov 1991, transported around by our Rover P6B*.
The rug lives on, and was photographed tonight!

* Had it been a Rover 75, there would, of course, have been accompanying slippers, deerstalker and pipe.

As you might expect, Paul Temple driving his convertible rolls down to Horsham equipped himeslf with a pair of these, obviously stored in the glove compartment when not required for driving duties. Not the tacky hole in the back ones either....

Standards, standards, Old Bean.
When motoring down through Leatherhead and Dorking, a certain minimum dress standard is expected.
Get clear of Ockley and Warnham, and into West Sussex, then it's open house.
Best to keep well clear of that Crawley area in the open-top...although the hostelry at Pease Pottage does a good lunch.

While the proletariat, might opt for a Bob Ferris Car Coat, Paul Temple arrives in what I presume is a genuine sheepskin!

Never been into fashion in any way but when I first got a decent job and couldn't afford a Jaaag, I went and bought the coat, then waited 27 years before I could afford the car (That's what children do for you! :-D ) Now I think the C5 qualifies as a gentleman's car so when winter strikes it will be back in use. Well whatever Paul Temple's maybe I know mine is real so I can go to Horsham anytime I like! :-D

Lovely stuff Mick!.....now if you roll all the windows down in the C5 all the way from Watford to Horsham I'm sure it will be cool enough to give it a trial run before winter is upon us. :-D

Yep, we don't care much for fashionable clothing nor driving standards down this neck of the woods  Ideally you need to drive a Merc or an Audi to fit in here, and ideally have a MINI or a Fiat 500 for the nanny - get that right and you'll be accepted in all the right places :rofl2:
