Re: Lighting question?

Thanks bobbins, that’s very helpful.

Hmmmm, in that picture the ring is definitely centred around the bulb and not offset.
The amount of heat given off by the bulb is significant, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this caused the metal fixture to bend, on the other hand, they should be built to take it. It’s a puzzle. I’m heading off for a test drive as soon as it gets dark.

Thanks.

...only on models without hydractive suspension. Cars with hydractive and halogen headlamps, there isn´t leveling motors. And on halogens with steel springs I think this adjustment isn´t "active", but you can adjust headlights with adjustment wheel in cabin. With xenon headlights there is leveling system always (I´m not sure wether there is X7 with steel springs and xenons, because hydractive suspension height sensors are used for leveling info too).

I´ve swapped new halogen headlights on my late X7, and there weren´t those adjustment motors on old or new headlights. :)

The Hydractive X7s with halogens have automatic headlamp levellers (in the diagram below, item 15).

It's the non-hydractive X7s with Halogens that have the remote headlamp adjustment inside the cabin to account for load in common with other vehicles - unless specified with optional Xenons, in which they will have height sensors on the axles.

This is screenshot of C5 X7 with hydractive and halogens with whole headlight higlighted. As you can see, part no 15 headlight corrector isn´t marked as blue, and it´s not included.

Well it seems you are probably right there Marko :) - I asked a friend to go and do a light test on his X7 (Hydractive with Halogens) last night and he reported back no beam change noticeable when sat on the boot. I have directional xenons so mine obviously adjust.

At least we have that cleared up now.

Yes, with hydropneumatic suspension we don´t need unneccessary parts, and headlight beam has been correctly adjusted regardless of load since 1950´s. :D
